About the role
During the performance of their normal lecturing role, a principal lecturer would focus upon leadership and qualitative improvement in educational processes and programs. A principal lecturer would be expected to have outstanding skills and qualities in education delivery with a focus on quality teaching and learning.
The principal lecturer is a teaching position and is expected to provide college or system wide educational leadership. The principal lecturer has industrial leadership responsibilities which relate directly to the education process, including curriculum, teaching initiatives and industry liaison.
This role’s teaching component focuses on working with colleagues (rather than enrolled students) to enhance lecturer capability across various domains. As a result, the relevant industry expertise for this position lies in adult learning and organisational development.
Specifically, this includes a requirement to have current demonstrated expertise in:
- Contemporary teaching methods such as explicit instruction
- Classroom management and creating positive learning environments
- Leadership, productivity, and teamwork
- Teaching with technology and instructional design
As the principal lecturer within the Innovative Practice team you will collaborate closely with the eLearning team, learning & development consultant, quality consultants, managers, and other principal lecturers. You will identify, design, and deliver capability development initiatives that support contemporary teaching practices and improve skills that drive workplace performance.
This position is ideal for an innovative thinker who enjoys exploring new ideas and is passionate about fostering excellence in teaching at South Metropolitan TAFE.
A higher teaching qualification (Bachelor’s Degree, Graduate Diploma, or Master’s) is required for this role.
It is preferred that candidates already possess a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment at the time of application or can demonstrate progression towards the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
