Chef/Cook – Indian Cuisine (Tandoor & Curry Section)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Cook with strong skills in authentic Indian cuisine, specialising in curries, tandoor dishes, entrees, and desserts, to join our busy and dynamic restaurant kitchen.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing high-quality Indian dishes in a fast-paced environment while maintaining consistency, hygiene, and presentation standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and cook a wide range of Indian dishes including curries, tandoori items, entrees, and desserts

Operate and manage tandoor oven safely and efficiently

Ensure consistent food quality, taste, and presentation

Assist in menu preparation and kitchen coordination

Oversee kitchen operations including stock control and stock rotation

Maintain cleanliness and compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations

Work effectively under pressure during busy service periods

Follow portion control and cost management procedures

Collaborate with kitchen team to ensure smooth service delivery

Selection Criteria

Minimum Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent qualification)

At least 1 year of experience working in an Indian kitchen (tandoor and curry section preferred)

Strong knowledge of Indian spices, curries, and traditional cooking techniques

Experience preparing entrees, mains, and desserts in a commercial kitchen

Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant

Strong teamwork and communication skills

Flexibility to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays

High standards of personal hygiene and professional presentation

Minimum 2 professional references required

Employment Conditions

Full-time position (38 hours per week minimum)

Rotating roster including evenings, weekends, and public holidays

Must be able to work under pressure in a busy kitchen environment

Pay: $70,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
