About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Agronomist to join our team at Bullsbrook, Western Australia.
The Agronomist will provide professional agronomic advice and technical support to optimise crop performance, quality, yield, and sustainable agricultural practices. The role will develop, implement, and monitor agronomic programs covering crop health, plant nutrition, irrigation, pest and disease management, growing conditions, and crop improvement.
The successful candidate will apply scientific and agricultural knowledge to assess crop performance, identify agronomic issues, conduct trials, analyse data, and develop evidence-based recommendations for continuous improvement. The role will also work with management, suppliers, consultants, research organisations, and relevant authorities when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate agronomic programs for fresh vegetable sprouts, microgreens, and salad vegetables.
- Conduct regular crop inspections and monitor plant growth, development, health, quality, and performance.
- Provide technical advice on crop establishment, growing conditions, crop management, and harvesting practices.
- Develop and manage crop nutrition programs, including fertiliser recommendations, nutrient monitoring, and corrective actions.
- Monitor and optimise irrigation and water management practices to improve crop performance and resource efficiency.
- Assess growing media, soil, water, and plant conditions and recommend improvements.
- Identify, diagnose, and manage pests, diseases, weeds, and crop disorders using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles.
- Conduct agricultural trials and evaluate crop varieties, production methods, inputs, and technologies.
- Collect, analyse, and interpret agronomic and crop performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Prepare technical reports, crop monitoring records, agronomic assessments, and recommendations for management.
- Develop and maintain crop management protocols, biosecurity procedures, and agronomic documentation.
- Provide technical guidance regarding crop handling, hygiene, plant management, and agronomic practices.
- Monitor compliance with food safety, biosecurity, environmental, workplace health and safety, and agricultural requirements.
- Liaise with agricultural suppliers, consultants, research organisations, and regulatory authorities when required.
- Research and evaluate new technologies and agricultural practices to support innovation and continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Crop Science, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a closely related agricultural discipline.
Desirable Qualification
- Master’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Science, Plant Science, Horticulture, or a related field will be highly regarded.
Essential Experience
- Minimum five (5) years relevant professional experience in agronomy, crop production, horticulture, or agricultural research.
- Minimum two (2) years recent Australian experience in commercial agronomic activities involving fresh vegetable sprouts, microgreens, salad vegetables, and closely related horticultural crops.
- Demonstrated experience in crop health assessment, plant nutrition, irrigation management, pest and disease diagnosis, and crop improvement.
- Experience conducting agricultural trials, analysing agronomic data, and developing technical recommendations.
Essential Skills
- Strong technical knowledge of agronomy, crop science, plant physiology, soil science, irrigation, and plant nutrition.
- Practical knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles.
- Ability to diagnose crop health issues and develop practical, evidence-based solutions.
- Strong research, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to analyse crop performance data and prepare technical recommendations and reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with management and relevant stakeholders.
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications and agricultural data recording systems.
- Commitment to food safety, biosecurity, workplace health and safety, environmental sustainability, and quality management.
- Ability to identify and implement opportunities for agronomic innovation and continuous improvement.
Licences
- Current Australian Driver’s Licence (manual) is essential.
- Current Forklift Licence is essential.
