About the role
The Vocational Skills Instructor operates a training workshop/classroom delivering culturally appropriate vocational and industry based training to support prison operations. The position provides on the job instruction, accredited training and supervision to prisoners who work in this area.
The Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supervise the day to day operations of the workshop and/or classroom including preparing, planning and scheduling daily training activities for prisoners.
- Prepare management reports and correspondence related to the workshop and/or classroom (including training targets, incident reporting and WHS etc), using various computer applications such as spreadsheets, templates, emails and in-house systems.
- Liaise with and coordinate the use of contractors and suppliers for the purposes of maintaining equipment and/or consumable products. Responsible for escorting contractors and suppliers for the workshop.
Eligibility
Successful applicants must have a:
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain within 9 months).
- Construction trade certificate at Cert III level (such as Metals and Engineering / Boilermaker Welding etc).
- Current and valid Construction Industry White Card.
To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.

Subsequent Vacancies
Applicants found suitable but not recommended for this vacancy, may be considered for subsequent similar vacancies in the Department of Justice for a period of twelve (12) months, in accordance with Part 5 (General Appointment) of the Commissioner's Instructions No. 2: Filling a Public Sector Vacancy and Commissioner’s Instructions and No. 39: Interim Arrangements to Fill Public Sector Vacancies. Permanent, fixed term, full time and part time appointments may be offered at during this period.
