Research Assistant - Health Services Research
12-month Fixed-Term, Full-Time position.
80 hours per fortnight with monthly ADOs.
Up to $73,762.00 (1RA1) - $105,846.00 (1RA10) base salary per annum + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave.

The role
This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of Health Services Researchers, Implementation Science specialists and Qualitative and Quantitative statisticians at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac).
In this role you will be a dynamic, flexible team player and will work across several projects in Health Services Research, with skills in both Quantitative statistics and Qualitative methodologies, however previous experience in Qualitative methods will be highly regarded.
As a Research Assistant you will work across the varied research program within the Centre for Health Services Research in Cancer (CHSRC). The role works under the strategic direction of the CHSRC Centre Manager and Business Manager to support senior researchers to delivery research projects that achieve the goals and objectives of the CHSRC strategic plan, that aligns with the broader Peter Mac Research and organisational strategy.

Position Summary
This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of Health Services Researchers, Implementation Science specialists and Qualitative and Quantitative statisticians at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac). This is a full time, fixed term 1-year role.
In this role you will be a dynamic, flexible team player and will work across several projects in Health Services Research. Projects for example, studies that examine healthcare utilisation by patients from underserved populations; developing implementation strategies for a new comprehensive care clinic for patients with multiple myeloma or developing a tool to facilitate equitable scaling up of cancer care.
You will take on responsibility for managing day-to-day activities to progress the work in alignment with key milestones. The role requires a proactive and highly motivated individual with Health Services Research experience who can establish strong working relationships with multi-disciplinary teams of researchers and clinicians across health services. Your office will be based at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and there is also some flexibility to work from home as negotiated with your team.

Skills
Essential Requirements
Bachelor degree in a health-related discipline such as Health, Public Health, Behavioural science, psychology, Qualitiative Statistics or a clinical professional qualification
Research knowledge and experience in Health Sercvices Research, Implementation science, evaluation, applied health sciences, public health, psychosocial, health services research
Demonstrated understanding of a range of research methodologies and their application in empirical research,
Excellent understanding of ethical issues, and experience with ethics and governance submissions
Effective written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and using own initiative
Excellent time management skills and ability
Commitment to excellence in patient care and in building relationships with consumers, researchers and clinicians.
Experience in writing successful grants, and evidence of a track record
Experience in submission of Ethics applications using ERM (Ethical Review Manager)
Desirable Requirements
Experience of applying implementation science frameworks in practice
Experience working in the health care sector, preferably within an oncology setting.
An emerging record of publications, conference papers and/or reports which provide evidence of strong research potential
Demonstrated, well developed computer skills including the use of software, such as Endnote, and NVivo, or equivalent
Key Accountabilities
1. Development and submission of ethics protocols
Good Clinical Practice training completed and up to date
Protocol preparation and submission to ethics according to study timeline
Oversight of ethics reporting and preparation of ethics reports according to reporting timeline requirements
All relevant Peter Mac ethics and research policies read, and training completed
Adherence to all aspects of GCP across all aspects of the study
2. Project management
Work with Senior study managers to deliver key project deliverables in a timely manner.
Balance multiple projects with the Centre for Health Services Research with effective communication across the project participants.
Ensure study management processes are in place to commence study, including preparation of databases, organising study meeting dates/ times, publication/authorship agreement document.
Recruitment of study participants; securing and appropriately recording informed consent; data collection; data analysis
Proactive planning/problem identification and escalation of any study issues to ensure timely resolution
Preparation of study reports for funders
3. Data collections
Coordinate and undertake interviews and focus groups with participants
Assist and co/facilitate focus groups
Assist with data collection and qualitative data analysis
4. Effective communication with and engagement of all key stakeholders
Preparation of study communication to support recruitment and awareness of study
Evidence of effective and respectful communication with all study investigators and participants
As appropriate, and with support of study PIs, prepare and disseminate social media updates of study; prepare abstracts for conferences and presentations
