SC1: Demonstrated experience as a Speech Pathologist delivering a comprehensive speech pathology service in a primary school setting through a multi-tiered model of support, including universal, targeted and individual interventions, in collaboration with school staff to improve student outcomes.
SC2: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team with other allied health professionals, teachers and school leadership to improve outcomes for students.
SC3: Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals, including teachers, parents/carers and students.
SC4: Demonstrated ability to assess student's individual learning needs, evaluate and provide evidence-based intervention programs, monitor and record progress on an individual and small group level.
SC5: Demonstrated experience and capability to plan, implement and support adjustments for students identified for the Disability Inclusion Model, including developing support plans, classroom-based recommendations and implementation of AAC.
SC 6: Demonstrated ability to design and deliver professional learning for teachers, education support staff and other relevant professionals, in the areas of language and communication that can be facilitated in the classroom.
Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.
Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.
Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employees position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
The speech pathologist is required to:
- Work directly with students and staff
- Collaborate with teachers to devise and assign communication goals for students
- Collaborate with teachers to write strategies for teaching communication goals
- Record student progress notes and document evidence of student performance
- Provide information sessions to parents
- Contribute constructively to school policy and curriculum documentation
- Assist in the development, purchasing and maintenance of resources and equipment
- Work positively with team members, school staff, students and families
- Liaise professionally with external agencies and community network
- Demonstrate satisfactory work performance through an annual performance review process
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary team
This role includes the following:
- Conduct formal assessment of students in areas such as, communication, alternative and augmentative communication, speech, language and social/behavioural needs.
- Provide the delivery of programs in collaboration with teachers, parents/carers according to students individual needs.
- Document, record and accurately report on student progress and make recommendations for future programming.
- Plan and guide ES staff members in the delivery of our language support program
- Develop support plans for Disability Inclusion profile meetings
- Provide professional learning for staff
- Attend meetings eg staff, department, and program support group

Lalor North Primary School was established in 1971. The school is situated in the North Western Victoria Region and is a member of the Whittlesea Network of schools. The school population is made up of 350 students from diverse multicultural backgrounds which we embrace and celebrate. Lalor North Primary School leads Victoria in Bilingual Education with two Bilingual Programs.
The Greek Bilingual Program was established in 1977 and the Macedonian Program was established in 1984.
Lalor North Primary School is especially unique as students are enrolled in one of the three curriculum programs: The Standard Curriculum Program, The Greek Bilingual Curriculum Program or The Macedonian Bilingual Curriculum Program. Lalor North Primary School leads Victoria in Bilingual Education. Our Greek Bilingual Program has been in operation since 1977 and is the oldest continually operating bilingual program in Victoria. Our Macedonian Bilingual Program began operation in 1984 and continues to operate at its highest ever enrolment. Both of our bilingual programs enjoy tremendous support from local communities as well as being internationally recognised by the governments of Greece and Northern Macedonia respectively.
Languages are a strength for every student at Lalor North Primary School. We have approximately 65% of our students with a language background other than English and there is a sense of pride in the linguistic, cultural and social diversity of our community. The learning programs are carefully built on this rich heritage and identity.
