The Opportunity
SunPork Consolidated Pty Ltd is seeking a Veterinary Services Manager to provide technical leadership, strategic advice and operational support across animal health, welfare, biosecurity and productivity throughout the SunPork production system.
Working as part of the Veterinary, Nutrition and Technical Services team, this role will partner closely with farm managers, production teams and key stakeholders to drive herd health outcomes, support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development and implementation of programs that enhance animal performance, welfare, compliance and sustainable production practices.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the health, welfare and productivity of one of Australia's largest integrated pork production systems while contributing to SunPork's strategic goals and upholding the SunPork Group values.
This position will be based in South Australia with interstate travel as required.
Responsibilities, tasks and duties:
Leadership & Capability Development
- Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to site veterinarians, animal health personnel and production managers.
- Develop the capability of operational teams through education, training and practical support.
- Deliver training programs for managers and stockpeople on animal health, welfare and biosecurity.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Animal Health
- Lead disease prevention, surveillance and control programs, including endemic disease management and exotic disease preparedness.
- Monitor animal health outcomes across production sites and at slaughter facilities.
- Conduct disease investigations, including diagnostic sampling, laboratory submissions and interpretation of results.
- Develop, implement and monitor herd health and treatment programs.
- Provide technical advice and support to farm managers and operational teams on animal health matters.
- Record, analyse and communicate findings, recommendations and actions arising from animal health investigations.
- Collaborate closely with veterinary and nutrition team members to support continuous improvement in herd performance.
Animal Welfare
- Provide leadership in animal welfare education, implementation and continuous improvement across the business.
- Uphold and support the implementation of the SunPork Animal Care and Welfare Policy.
- Develop and maintain animal welfare monitoring frameworks and improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical advice on animal handling, housing, transport and euthanasia practices.
- Ensure compliance with industry welfare standards, customer requirements and regulatory obligations.
- Deliver practical and theoretical welfare training to managers and farm personnel.
- Investigate, record and report animal welfare incidents and support corrective actions where required.
Biosecurity
- Lead biosecurity awareness, education and implementation initiatives across the SunPork production system.
- Uphold and support the implementation of SunPork's Biosecurity Policies and Procedures.
- Deliver biosecurity training and education programs for managers and farm personnel.
- Investigate, record and report biosecurity incidents and support corrective actions where required.
- Engage with government agencies, industry bodies and regulatory authorities on biosecurity matters.
- Ensure compliance with animal health, welfare, food safety and residue avoidance requirements.
- Support emergency animal disease preparedness, response planning and training activities.
- Work collaboratively with the veterinary and nutrition team on biosecurity initiatives and risk management.
Farm Productivity
- Partner with farm managers and production teams to identify, investigate and resolve animal production issues.
- Analyse production data and provide recommendations to improve performance and productivity.
- Assist in the development and delivery of training programs relating to animal production and performance.
- Monitor, record and report production issues, outcomes and improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that support sustainable production outcomes.
Animal Health Products & Medications
- Provide leadership in antimicrobial stewardship and the responsible use of veterinary medicines.
- Uphold and support the implementation of SunPork's antimicrobial use position.
- Assist with the management of animal health product inventories and medicine controls.
- Ensure compliance with all legislative and company requirements relating to the storage, supply and use of veterinary medicines.
- Provide technical guidance on the appropriate selection and use of animal health products.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant bachelor’s degree is required.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience working as Veterinarian in the Pork Industry is required.
- Veterinarian currently registered to practice in all states that SunPork operates in OR in the process of obtaining registration.
- Current and Valid Driver’s licence OR in the process of obtaining a licence.
