Job Description

Following a holistic review and redesign across our professional services and scientific support portfolios, we are now focused on strengthening our critical capabilities, aligning our structures and systems with strategic priorities, and empowering our people to do what they do best. We are now recruiting a variety of newly established positions to help shape and embed these new ways of working.

WEHI is seeking an experienced digital communications professional to strengthen our social media and websites through engaging content development, channel optimisation and data-informed decision making.

Working within the Engagement and Communications team and managing one direct report, this role combines website management, digital performance analysis and hands-on content creation, including short-form social video. You will use audience insights and platform analytics to identify opportunities for improvement and guide storytelling approaches, formats, timing and distribution.

This role will suit a proactive and collaborative person who enjoys balancing creativity with technical expertise and is motivated by the opportunity to support world-leading medical research.

About the Position

The Digital Services Advisor is responsible for the optimisation and continuous improvement of WEHI’s digital communications platforms, ensuring digital services effectively support the institute’s scientific and commercial priorities while enhancing engagement with scientific, social, philanthropic, and fundraising communities globally and locally. The role is responsible for supporting delivery of scalable, user-centred digital solutions that strengthen external engagement and internal communication with staff and students.

The Digital Services Advisor plays a key role in managing and enhancing WEHI's digital presence, leading the optimisation of websites, social media channels, search performance, and analytics to ensure all digital touchpoints are aligned with organisational objectives, enterprise architecture, accessibility standards, and brand governance. The role focuses on delivering consistent, accessible, and high-performing digital experiences and outcomes, underpinned by continuous monitoring, insights, and improvement.

Working collaboratively across internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders, the Digital Services Advisor provides expert advice, contributes to social media content creation, supports digital strategy implementation, and contributes to governance, risk management, and service optimisation to support communications and engagement and protect and enhance WEHI’s reputation.

Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:

Tertiary qualification in digital, information technology, communications, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience), or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in social media content creation, including video and photography.
Strong understanding of current and emerging social media trends and content formats.
Experience managing corporate digital channels or online platforms.
Demonstrated experience in analytics, SEO, and web performance optimisation.
Strong understanding of service design, user experience (UX) principles, and accessibility standards (WCAG)
Experience engaging with cross-functional teams and managing at least one direct report.
Deep understanding of web content management systems (e.g. WordPress, Sitecore, Drupal, or similar), internal intranet and SharePoint.
Working knowledge of HTML/CSS fundamentals.
Knowledge of enterprise architecture principles, digital governance, and risk management practices.

Solution orientated and able to find practical ways to improve efficiency and user engagement.
Accountable and willing to take ownership of outcomes and maintain high standards of accuracy and delivery.
Demonstrated ability to work under limited guidance and to navigate complexity in a changing environment.

Terms of Appointment
This position is ongoing in a full-time capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 7 ($108,119 - $117,039). Very attractive salary packaging options are available for general living expenses, meal entertainment, novated leasing and more. 12% superannuation payable, plus up to a further 5% after the first 6 months of service via our matching superannuation scheme.
