Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative – Family, Care & Early Years now has the following vacancy:

Boorai Early Parenting Family Support Practitioner (New Position)

2x Full-time positions - 38 hours a week

T his is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

About the Role

The Boorai and Parenting Family Support Practitioner provides early, intensive, culturally safe, Aboriginal led support to Aboriginal women during pregnancy and the early parenting period. The role focuses on walking alongside mothers to strengthen wellbeing, parenting confidence, cultural connection, and safety for both mother and baby.

Working within Rumbalara Family Services, the Practitioner delivers relationship-based case management and advocacy, supporting mothers who may be experiencing vulnerability and/or are at risk of Child Protection involvement. The role emphasises early intervention, prevention, and strengths-based practice, with the aim of improving engagement with services, reducing crisis driven responses, and supporting families to remain together safely.

The Practitioner works closely with internal Rumbalara programs and external partners, including maternity services, hospitals, Child Protection, and community agencies, while upholding Aboriginal self-determination, cultural leadership, confidentiality, and professional integrity.

About You

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

You are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
Certificate IV or Diploma in Community Services, Early Childhood or other relevant qualification (or willingness to work towards):
Lived experience, cultural knowledge, and community engagement are recognised and valued alongside formal qualifications in line with Aboriginal community-controlled practice.
Sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture, values, kinship systems, and community, with a strong understanding of factors impacting the health, wellbeing, and safety of Aboriginal women, babies, and families.
Demonstrated experience, or the ability to deliver, intensive and specialised family support and case management, particularly with pregnant women, parents of young children, or families experiencing vulnerability.
Demonstrated ability to assess family needs and strengths, manage referrals, liaise with service providers, and apply culturally safe, strengths-based case support practices.
Sound understanding of relevant service systems, networks, and referral pathways for the target cohort, including health, maternity services, Child Protection, Child FIRST, and other community supports.
Demonstrated ability to effectively advocate for families within complex service systems.
Ability to maintain a high standard of confidentiality, ethical practice, and compliance with organisational policies, legislative requirements, and funding guidelines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage respectfully with families, colleagues, and external stakeholders in challenging and sensitive situations.
