We are on the look out for talented and highly motivated individuals who enjoy the art of customer service and the incredible worlds of cheese & wine to join our small retail team offering Australia's best selection of cheeses with a wine wall the envy of Melbourne with a focus on boutique wineries with an organic and/or biodynamic ethos.

Maker & Monger is an institution of Melbourne's culinary scene and we are approaching our 10th birthday here inside the heritage listed harvest hall of Prahran Market.

We are on the look out for talented and highly motivated individuals who can work as cheesemongers and wine wall retail assistants to help continue our growth this year in the bustling heart of Melbourne's oldest food market.

You will be joining a very passionate team who offer fantastic training and mentoring in both worlds of cheese and wine as we want you to be the best you can be and share the Maker & Monger passion for taste and education that we so strongly strive to promote.

Due to the nature of our business, weekend work and being available to work the month of December in the lead up to Christmas Day is essential.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Knowledge of M&M cheese & beverage selection and able to sell and upsell with ease and confidence in a fast paced environment
Value excellent, personalised customer service and possess strong communication skills
Have a commitment to delivering an unforgettable and sincere retail experience for M&M customer
Follow strict health and safety protocols
Maintain quality standards and cheese care requirements
Work to create customer loyalty through individualised service
Weekend work is essential

Requirements of the candidate:

Current RSA
Drivers licence
Basic understanding of sales principles and customer service practices
Love of cheese and wine a bonus
Basic understanding of wine and beer. WSET Level 2 or above is a huge plus!
Experience of working a restaurant wine list
Understanding current trends in wine drinking
High level of cleanliness of work and personal hygiene
Ability to work within a small team without ego or agenda
Proficiency in English
Customer service focus
Friendly, helpful, confident, and engaging personality
Basic administration skills
Familiarity with consumer behaviour principles
Basic math skills
Excellent communication skills, capable of building trusting relationships
Ability to perform in fast-paced environments
