Victorian Equine Group brings together Bendigo Equine Hospital and satellite services across key breeding and performance regions, including Lancefield, Nagambie, and Northern Victoria.
Since opening in 2012, Bendigo Equine Hospital has grown into a trusted first opinion and referral centre with a collaborative team of 10–13 veterinarians.
We are now looking for a skilled and motivated Equine Surgeon to join the team at Bendigo. This is an opportunity to take on meaningful surgical work, influence clinical standards, mentor capable colleagues, and contribute to a progressive equine practice with a strong reputation across regional Victoria.

You will see a varied and rewarding caseload, with approximately 60% commercial and 40% pleasure horses, providing broad exposure across referral, emergency, performance, reproductive, and general equine practice. You will work alongside surgical and reproductive specialists, experienced ambulatory clinicians, and hospital-based practitioners who are committed to practical, high-quality equine care.
Based opposite Bendigo Racecourse, our purpose-built hospital includes a fully equipped surgical suite and the facilities to support a wide range of procedures and services, including:
- Orthopaedic surgery (arthroscopy, fracture repair, joint pathology)
- Soft tissue surgery (colic, dystocia, airway procedures, reproductive surgery, wound management)
- Minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy)
- Intensive medical care, including neonatal and critical care cases
- Lameness and poor performance investigations (first opinion and referral)
- Stud veterinary services, supporting major Thoroughbred and Standardbred operations

About you
You may be a registered specialist, board eligible, or an experienced equine surgeon with an equivalent advanced training pathway. Most importantly, you will bring the capability, confidence, and ambition to play a key clinical role within the group.
You will bring:

- Strong surgical expertise with a focus on lameness
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and team development experience
- Sound clinical judgment with excellent communication skills
- Commitment to high standards of care and continuous clinical improvement
- Collaborative, client-focused approach to practice
To be successful, you will need:
- Veterinary degree recognised in Australia
- Specialist registration, board eligibility, or equivalent advanced training pathway
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in equine surgery
