Experienced Carpenter — Custom Residential Homes
If building the same houses on repeat has worn thin, read on.
Custom work asks for skill, experience and a good attitude in equal measure. That's the standard we build to, and it's the standard we hire to.
We're growing the team at Lavish Constructions and we're after experienced carpenters who can run their own site — people who make sound calls on the tools, and who know the wider team is behind them when it comes to working through the bespoke details.
About us
Lavish Constructions builds high-end custom homes across Toowoomba and the surrounding region. No two of our projects are the same, and that's deliberate. We take on the work other builders find too complicated, and we finish it to a level our clients talk about for years.
That only happens because of the people on site. We've built a team that takes genuine pride in the work, communicates properly, and holds a high standard every single day — not just when someone's watching.
The role
You'll take ownership of a site from start to finish. That means leading the carpentry works, coordinating the trades around you, keeping the job moving, and setting the standard for everyone on the tools.
Day to day, you'll be:
- Running your own site — planning the work, sequencing the trades, keeping the program on track
- Leading carpenters, apprentices and subbies, and setting the tone for how the site operates
- Reading and interpreting plans, specs and detailed custom drawings, and picking up the issues before they become problems
- Working through complex and bespoke details alongside our construction manager and project team
- Ordering materials and managing what lands on site and when
- Holding the line on quality, safety and site presentation
- Keeping site records up to date in our job management system
- Bringing apprentices along properly and passing on what you know
What we're looking for
- Minimum five years out of your time as a qualified carpenter — this isn't a role for someone fresh off their apprenticeship
- Genuine experience in custom residential building, not volume or project homes
- The confidence and judgement to make decisions on site without waiting to be told
- Strong ability to read and interpret detailed plans and specifications
- A proven track record leading a site team and coordinating subcontractors
- Excellent communication — with your team, with the office, and with clients when they're on site
- Solid understanding of the NCC, QLD building standards and site safety obligations
- Own tools, current driver's licence and a valid White Card
- The right attitude. Skill and experience are a given. Attitude carries the same weight.
What you'll get
- Above-award pay that reflects what you actually bring to the job + Fuel Card and ongoing support
- Genuinely interesting work — architectural and custom builds, not the same floor plan four streets over
- A steady pipeline of work and a business that's growing, not scraping for the next job
- A team that backs you when a detail needs solving, rather than leaving you to it
- Ongoing training and development, and a clear path to grow with the business
- Direct access to the decision makers — no layers of management between you and the answer you need
This probably isn't for you if
You're chasing the easiest job on the street, you'd rather not be accountable for the outcome, or you're happy for "near enough" to be good enough. We're not that builder and we're not that team.
