The Glennie School, located in Toowoomba, Queensland, is an Anglican day and boarding school for girls from Kindergarten to Year 12 with boarding for students from Year 5. Choral Accompanist and Casual Accompanist
The Choral Accompanist and Casual Accompanist will provide high level keyboard support to enhance our thriving, well established, and highly accomplished Co curricular Choral Program. This role involves accompanying a diverse range of primary and secondary choirs including both auditioned and non auditioned ensembles during scheduled rehearsals and performances. Additionally, the role includes providing casual accompaniment support across the wider Performing Arts department for student assessments, solo performances, and community events. Working closely with conductors, the Accompanist will understand how girls learn, foster a positive rehearsal environment, and contribute to the outstanding musical outcomes of the School.
Key Accountabilities
The duties and responsibilities of the Accompanist will include, but not be limited to:
Provide expert piano accompaniment for regular choral rehearsals according to the current school schedule (currently Tuesday afternoons for Secondary Choirs and Thursday afternoons for Primary Choirs).
Sight read and prepare a diverse, high quality choral repertoire efficiently, supporting both auditioned and non auditioned tiers across Junior Years and Senior Years.
Support the choral conductors during rehearsals by playing individual vocal parts, sections, or full scores, adapting playing styles to suit the learning needs of school aged girls.
Accompany choirs at scheduled school assemblies, chapel services, concerts, eisteddfods, and community events.
Provide casual accompaniment support for individual student music exams, performance assessments, solo recitals, and other departmental events as required.
Maintain an enthusiastic and organised approach to all accompaniment duties, collaborating effectively with music staff and checking the School's Google calendar to manage scheduling requirements.
Take an active supervisory and pastoral care role during all rehearsals and performances, paying specific attention to travel and scheduling arrangements for boarding students.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Essential
Outstanding piano proficiency and highly developed sight reading skills, with proven experience accompanying choral ensembles or working within a school music environment.
Demonstrated experience working with school aged students and an understanding of how girls learn and engage in group music settings.
Current Paid Blue Card.
Current First Aid Certificate with CPR.
Eligibility for employment under the Anglican Church Southern Queensland (Diocese) Policy and Procedures.
Desirable
Bachelor of Music, or Associate Diploma in Piano Performance, or equivalent tertiary qualifications specialising in keyboard performance.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) in order to interact effectively with students, conductors, and staff.
High level organisational skills and flexibility to manage a casual schedule alongside regular weekly choral commitments.
Choral Conductor(s)
The Choral Conductor(s) will lead, inspire, and develop our highly accomplished and well established Co curricular Choral Program. Responsible for directing a diverse range of primary and secondary choirs encompassing both auditioned and non auditioned ensembles the Conductor will foster an enduring appreciation for vocal music, cultivate exceptional choral technique, and understand the pedagogical nuances of how girls learn. The role involves preparing students for internal school services, community events, and high level competitions, ensuring the program continues to deliver its renowned outstanding impact.
Key Accountabilities
The duties and responsibilities of the Choral Conductor(s) will include, but not be limited to:

Strings Conductor and Tutor
The Strings Conductor and Tutor will deliver high quality, engaging string pedagogy across our extra curricular studio and group music programs. This multi faceted role involves teaching individual studio lessons, delivering small group lessons within the Junior Years String Immersion program, and conducting both the Primary String Ensemble and the Introductory String Ensemble. The successful candidate will bring specialist depth in teaching and playing lower strings (cello and double bass) while confidently delivering beginner level pedagogy for upper strings (violin and viola), ensuring an exceptional foundation for young musicians in alignment with how girls learn.
Key Accountabilities
The duties and responsibilities of the Strings Conductor and Tutor will include, but not be limited to:
Provide expert individual instruction to strings students within the extra curricular studio music program, tracking development and preparing students for assessments, exams, and solo performances.
Plan and deliver engaging small group string lessons within the Junior Years String Immersion program, fostering teamwork and fundamental technique among young learners.
Conduct and musically direct the Primary String Ensemble and the Introductory String Ensemble, selecting appropriate, educational, and high quality repertoire that builds core ensemble skills.
Select, adapt, and scaffold repertoire and instructional methods to meet the diverse technical needs of primary aged string players and support the unique learning styles of girls.
Prepare, tune, and lead ensembles at scheduled school assemblies, concerts, chapel services, eisteddfods, and community events.
Maintain comprehensive records of student attendance, instrument allocations, lesson scheduling, and progress reports.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, practice routines, and ensemble requirements via the provided Glennie email address.
Consult the School's Google calendar routinely to manage scheduling and collaborate productively with the Head of Arts and Performance and Coordinator of Junior Years Performance.
Take an active supervisory and pastoral care role during all studio lessons, group classes, rehearsals, and performances.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Essential
Experience teaching strings to young students, specifically cello and double bass.
Proven experience conducting primary or junior string ensembles and a strong understanding of foundational ensemble training.
Experience working with school aged children and a clear pedagogical understanding of how girls learn and develop physical coordination on acoustic string instruments.
Current Paid Blue Card.
Current First Aid Certificate with CPR.
