The Facilities Manager is responsible for maintenance of the College buildings and grounds
-
The role supports management of OHS systems to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment for students, staff and visitors

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this role provides expert support and advice to school leadership on facilities management, OHS compliance and asset maintenance

The position combines hands-on maintenance responsibilities with the coordination of contractors

Working hours for this role are Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:06pm

Attendance outside of standard hours and during school holiday periods may be required from time to time
Facilities & Grounds Maintenance
-
Ensure all buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard, are safe, functional and well presented, with all work undertaken in accordance with OHS requirements and Department standards

Undertake a broad range of hands-on maintenance works across the College, including minor carpentry, painting, patching, basic plumbing repairs, furniture repairs, equipment maintenance and general upkeep of buildings and outdoor areas.

Perform routine grounds maintenance including gardening, pruning, rubbish removal, pressure cleaning and maintaining outdoor learning and recreation spaces to a high standard

Collaborate with other team members and contractors to achieve desired outcomes for the College

Coordinate and supervise external contractors where required, ensuring works are completed safely and in line with the College expectations, timelines and budgets

Conduct regular inspections of buildings, grounds, plant and equipment to identify maintenance issues, safety hazards and preventative maintenance requirements, taking prompt action where required

Respond in a timely manner to maintenance requests, prioritising urgent works and communicating progress to relevant staff

Assist with the setup, pack-down and movement of furniture and equipment for school events, classrooms and operational requirements

Monitor and maintain College owned tools, maintenance equipment and consumables to ensure they are safe, operational and appropriately stored
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

Support the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment by following OHS procedures and identifying and reporting hazards

Conduct quarterly visual inspections of buildings and grounds, including asbestos and asbestos labels

Ensure all contractors comply with site induction processes, OHS requirements and DET standards
-
Maintain accurate records of maintenance works, servicing and associated costs
-
Ensure the school maintains compliant documentation with regards to maintenance related plant and equipment registers, safe work procedures and risk management plans

Ensure the timely booking of all required servicing and inspections and maintain accurate records
-
Undertake any follow up work as required by the outcome of these processes

Ensure all tasks required in AIMS and Edusafe Plus are completed and relevant documentation is uploaded as evidence of completion
Documentation Compliance

Welcome to Wheelers Hill Secondary College. We have a student population of approximately 700 and a team of passionate and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff who are focused on providing the best learning outcomes for all students. The College was established in 1980 and is in the City of Monash, in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. We welcome and support Diversity and Inclusion. Our core and extra-curricula programs, at all year levels, includes Sports, Instrumental Music, Student Leadership, Voice and Agency, Robotics Clubs and a range of other activities. Wheelers Hill Secondary College strives to develop students who are ready to embrace the future and become empathic and ethical global citizens.
The College consists of two sub schools: Middle and Senior. Every Year level has access to a broad range of core studies, and an extensive elective program is available at Years 9 to 12, with students recommended for VCE Advanced Placements in their areas of expertise and interest.
The College has also implemented a school-wide approach to Literacy, Numeracy and STEAM, with Learning Specialists in each of these areas to oversee initiatives. The Colleges Performing Arts Programs provide further opportunities for our students to excel as learners.Our Performing Arts Program supports Instrumental Music, an annual Whole School Production, numerous bands and choirs, together with various Showcases demonstrating student skills and talent.
We offer an excellent Sports Program, with dedicated teachers to support individual athletes as well as a huge array of team sports. Our House System also offers students the opportunity to build peer connectedness and personal wellbeing. Our dedicated Wellbeing space provides one on one consulting by our Wellbeing Team.
The Colleges primary administration platform is Compass. Students, parents, teachers and administration staff liaise efficiently and effectively through this platform. This is a powerful tool which underpins effective communication by sharing resources, communicating attendance, promoting student work, ensuring classroom materials are available and ensuring currency of documentation.
Our learning spaces include:
- A spacious Resources Centre facility to support learning and research, which forms the central hub of the College.
- A modern Science Centre, catering for the four major science strands of Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Physics
- A Food Technology Centre
- Arts, Woodwork and Metals/Plastics Technology areas
- The Bunjil Centre, featuring a practical performance theatre, music rehearsal spaces and a full-size gymnasium with a giant digital screen
- A dedicated VCE Study Centre.
The College welcomes the use of our facilities by local community groups, including the use of classrooms, the gymnasium, and the College grounds for sporting and academic activities.
