Maribyrnong College provides a broad education for 1350 students in Years 7~12. It is home to Victoria's only state funded Sports Designated Program with a select entry sports enrolment comprising approximately 40% of the school population.

Maribyrnong College delivers programs that produce outstanding outcomes for students in both academic and sporting endeavours. The College provides a broad VCE curriculum, including the Vocational Major, and the majority of students undertake further study after Year 12. A High Achievers program operates at Years 7~9, with extension opportunities available to all students. Year 10 students can access a range of VCE subjects. A rich extra curricular program includes instrumental music and drama, debating, a school production and a strong interschool sports program. The College has an active Student Leadership Program at all year levels.
The college has recently been funded in the state budget for a $14.3 million upgrade of its Performing Arts and Food Technology precinct. Current college facilities also include a 7000 square metre Sports Stadium with an elite training centre, and synthetic hockey, soccer and tennis facilities. The sport complex forms the base for the Maribyrnong Sports Academy program and all students at the College use this facility for Health and PE classes.

Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.

Learning Specialist ~ Head of Health & PE
Role Purpose
Develop and lead a united, empowered and high performing faculty culture that inspires excellence in teaching practice, curriculum delivery and student growth.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement a faculty vision in line with college priorities.

Provide effective and dynamic leadership of the team of teachers and Education Support staff in the faculty.

Lead and implement the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (2.0) with a focus on faculty specific practices including Explicit Teaching.

Lead assessment consistency and moderation.

Utilise relevant evidence/data to drive improvement in learning outcomes.

Maximise student engagement and achievement.

Lead faculty meetings.

Lead faculty specific professional learning.

Work closely with Assistant Principal and Timetabler to create a staffing profile that meets the needs of the faculty and college.

Manage organisational and communication requirements, including:
Faculty contributions to and presence at events like Curriculum Expo and mediums like the sub school bulletin.
Overseeing the faculty budget, including annual materials and consumables ordering (equipment, software, etc), keeping expenditure within allocation and following MC Finance processes.
Maintaining relevant resources and equipment.
Ensuring that all incursions/excursions are planned and executed in line with MC processes.
Organising the provision of work to cover absent teachers.

Understand and implement the school's Child Safe Policy and foster a culture of openness with staff and students that supports all persons to safely disclose risks of harm to children.
