About the role
The position encompasses broad non-operative and operative surgical care, mainly relating to the alimentary tract, trauma and critical care, endocrine and breast diseases, cancer surgery and endoscopy.
At Manning Base Hospital, a rural/regional site, the position requires skills to cover these areas (elective and emergency) as part of a local team with networked escalation pathways.
About the department
As a General Surgeon with Manning Base Hospital, you will be part of a collegial and deeply committed team focused on improving patient care without compromising staff health and happiness. Standard 1:4 on-call arrangements exist. Theatre time is adequate to ensure patients’ access to surgery and to ensure adequate exposure.
The Surgery Department includes 4 General Surgeons and a Urologist. The nursing staff in theatres and on the ward are experienced and knowledgeable. Allied Health support is readily available. We are a teaching site with Royal Australasian College of Surgeons accreditation for training – 2 accredited trainees and 2 unaccredited trainees. In addition, the department has 2 interns/Resident Medical Officers. Manning Hospital is affiliated with the Joint Medical Program of The University of Newcastle and The University of New England.
