HBC Trading Australia is seeking an experienced and driven Accountant to join our finance and corporate operations team at our head office and distribution hub in Regents Park, NSW. This is an exceptional opportunity to drive financial governance, cost control, and strategic reporting across a complex, high-volume international trade and wholesale operation. This full-time position offers a competitive salary within the range of $75,000 to $85,000 per annum, plus superannuation, benchmarked against market salary rates and commensurate with the technical skill, qualifications, and accountability required to sustain financial standards in a premier FMCG wholesale business.
Scope of the role:
- Develop, refine, and enforce tailored internal accounting frameworks, inventory valuation policies, and operating budgets designed for high-volume FMCG wholesale, import, and export operations.
- Prepare comprehensive statutory financial statements, balance sheets, and executive performance reports for presentation to the Board of Directors, executive management, and relevant regulatory authorities.
- Conduct detailed commercial investigations and internal financial audits, advising leadership on capital funding options, business growth opportunities, supply chain risk management, and corporate transactions.
- Analyse landed Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), multi-currency freight and shipping expenses, customs duties, and individual SKU profitability across our portfolio of over 1,200 gourmet product lines.
- Provide strict financial assurance regarding the accuracy of all corporate accounting records, ensuring total compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), ATO requirements, and BRC audit guidelines.
- Deliver strategic advice regarding corporate tax planning, international trade channels, and operational business structures to optimise commercial efficiency.
- Prepare, lodge, and manage corporate income tax returns, Business Activity Statements (BAS), GST obligations, and relevant statutory tax filings.
- Liaise with major banking institutions, trade brokers, and credit partners to manage working capital facilities, treasury requirements, and foreign exchange (FX) hedging strategies.
- Maintain, configure, and optimise modern cloud-based ERP and accounting software, recommending advanced digital systems to streamline inventory control and automated reporting.
- Enforce robust internal control mechanisms and audit protocols to mitigate operational risk, safeguard assets, and maintain strict inventory accuracy at our Regents Park facility.
- Appraise business cash flow projections, foreign exchange exposure, and financial risks relating to capital investments in new product lines, warehouse equipment, and brand acquisitions.
To be considered for this role, you should:
- Hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
- Have at least 2 to 5 years of professional work experience as an Accountant, ideally within FMCG, wholesale distribution, manufacturing, or import/export sectors.
- Be willing to work on-site at our facility in Regents Park, NSW, or relocate if currently based interstate.
- Demonstrate advanced working knowledge of Australian corporate tax law, AASB standards, GST/import duty frameworks, and financial reporting compliance.
- Possess strong expertise in maintaining complex cloud-based ERP software, financial management systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel reporting tools.
- Bring previous experience working within high-volume commercial environments managing inventory control, cost of goods sold, and multi-currency transactions.
- Have a strong understanding of internal control frameworks, financial auditing, and corporate governance standards within accredited quality environments (such as BRC or HACCP-aligned businesses).
- Demonstrate a proven ability to perform in fast-paced, operationally demanding environments under tight financial reporting deadlines.
- Possess exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a high degree of numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Have full availability to work full-time hours aligned with standard business and operational schedules in Regents Park.
- Must hold valid Australian work rights at the time of application.
