A unique and exciting career opportunity exists for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join our 18-bed tertiary Children's Intensive Care Unit (CICU) as a Nurse Unit Manager Level 1 (NUM1). As part of an evolving model of care, CICU is transitioning from a 7-day service to a 24/7 model, with NUM1s providing leadership across 12-hour shifts covering both days and nights.

Part-time opportunities are available offering flexibility within a dynamic and supportive environment. In this role, you will coordinate unit activity on a daily basis, working in close collaboration with the NUM2 and Nurse Manager 3 (NM3) Intensive Care.

You will play a pivotal role in patient flow, unit operations and clinical leadership ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while supporting efficient use of resources. Importantly, this role strengthens leadership presence across all hours, supporting a high-functioning and responsive service. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated clinician with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care, leadership and team collaboration.

What you'll be doing

The Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) provides high quality patient care by efficiently utilising resources to manage the clinical operation of the Department/Unit on a shift by shift basis. This includes patient flow, staffing management and co-ordinating and directing clinical care to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

The NUM, under the direction of the Line Manager is to:

Ensure the provision of an appropriate and safe standard of clinical care.
Assume responsibility for providing leadership, direction and co-ordination of patient care.
Ensure the effective functioning of the nursing team in the co-ordination of each team member providing care.
Ensure all nursing staff in the ward practice safely, are competent and work within their scope of practice.
Assist the Nurse Manager to ensure that the ward is managed effectively and within budget allocation

Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Demonstrated advanced interpersonal and communication skills including problem solving, balancing competing demands and conflict resolution.

Demonstrated ability to engage, enable and manage teams

Demonstrated relevant clinical nursing experience with postgraduate nursing qualifications in specialty or management, or working towards same.

Understanding of the complexities of the paediatric tertiary referral environment.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the management and delivery of health care services.

High level computer literacy.
