Sophia Mundi is a progressive, values‑based Prep–Year 12 Steiner school located within
the historic Abbotsford Convent arts precinct. The school offers a unique educational pathway that integrates Steiner’s holistic, developmental approach with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP). Our learning environment is grounded in creativity, human dignity, academic rigour, and a deep respect for the unfolding of each child.
2. Position Purpose
The Education Support Coordinator leads the school’s inclusive education, learning support, and disability inclusion functions. The role ensures that students with diagnosed needs, learning challenges, or additional support requirements are identified early, supported effectively, and monitored consistently.
The Coordinator provides operational oversight across learning support programs, services, NCCD compliance, staff capability building, and the coordination of internal and
external support services.
This role is central to ensuring that inclusive, Steiner‑aligned, student‑centred practices are embedded across the school.
3. SCOPE OF WORK
The Support Education Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing student support services across the school, ensuring all students—particularly those with diagnosed needs and those requiring additional support in literacy, numeracy, and English as an Additional Language (EAL) – are identified, supported and monitored effectively. The role includes oversight of national and school-based assessment processes, disability inclusion compliance, staff support, and coordination of support services.

4. Scope of the Role
The Support Education Coordinator is responsible for:
- Whole‑school coordination of inclusive education and learning support
- Oversight of NCCD, disability inclusion processes, and compliance
- Leadership of Education Support staff
- Coordination of assessment programs (PAT, NAPLAN, new‑student assessments)
- Supporting the development and monitoring of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adjustments
- Data analysis to inform teaching, intervention, and reporting
- Ensuring alignment with Steiner pedagogy and the school’s values
5. Key Responsibilities
A. Student Identification & Support
- Lead whole‑school processes for identifying students with disabilities, learning needs, or additional support requirements.
- Support the development, implementation, and review of IEPs, student profiles, and intervention plans.
- Ensure high‑quality documentation of adjustments and evidence for NCCD.
- Coordinate disability funding applications and ensure compliance with national and state requirements.
- Support teachers in implementing differentiated and inclusive teaching strategies.
- Work with the Student Wellbeing Officer to support continuity of care across both areas.
- Work with the IB DP Coordinator to manage Inclusive Access Arrangements for assessments and examinations.
- Maintain and review Medical Management Plans and contribute to enrolment decisions where additional needs are identified.
B. Support Education Program Management
- Lead and mentor the Education Support team, including Teacher Aides and specialist
- Coordinate targeted intervention programs in literacy, numeracy, EAL, and learning
- Facilitate professional learning for teachers in inclusive education, differentiation, and Steiner‑aligned support practices.
- Oversee transition processes for students entering or moving through the school.
- Identify gaps in support structures and recommend staffing, resourcing, or program
C. Assessment Coordination & Data Management
- Coordinate PAT, NAPLAN, and other assessment programs, including administration, scheduling, and student participation.
- Analyse assessment data to inform teaching, IEP development, and NCCD moderation.
- Support teachers in interpreting data and implementing targeted interventions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, adjustments, and support requirements.
- Coordinate assessment processes for newly enrolled students.
D. Resource & Operational Management
- Manage support education resources, timetables, and room allocations.
- Coordinate Teacher Aide schedules and ensure effective deployment across the school.
- Liaise with external specialists and oversee contractor induction and compliance.
- Support the effective use of systems such as Compass and other student management platforms.
E. Staff Support & Leadership
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and performance support to Education Support staff.
- Monitor developments in inclusive education, disability inclusion, and government
- Promote inclusive practices and contribute to whole‑school improvement initiatives.
F. Other Duties
As requested by the Principal:
- Contribute to the promotion of the school and the IB DP.
- Participate in internal and external marketing activities.
- Support school events including camps, excursions, festivals, fairs, and open days.
- Undertake other reasonable duties aligned with the role.

7. Key Selection Criteria
- A recognised teaching qualification and current VIT registration or equivalent relevant training and experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in inclusive education and learning support.
- Strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support staff.
- High‑level skills in documentation, data analysis, and compliance.
Desirable:
- Leadership experience in a school setting.
- Experience with the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework.
8. Conditions of Employment
- Current Working With Children Check or VIT registration
- Eligibility to work in Australia
- A remuneration package reflecting the level of skill and experience brought to the position will be negotiated with the successful candidate. If the successful applicant holds a teacher registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT), the Education Support Coordinator would be employed under the conditions of a teacher and the Educational Services (Teachers) Award 2020. This Position Description would be adjusted accordingly to include a teaching load of 0.2 FTE and the requirement to fulfil the duties of a teacher.
If the successful applicant is not a teacher so not holding VIT registration, the conditions of a general staff member would apply, being the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2020. If the position is filled by a general staff member there is no teaching requirement.
9. Child Safety Responsibilities

- Complete all required child protection training.
- Promote the cultural safety and empowerment of all students, including those who are vulnerable, have a disability, are from culturally or linguistically diverse
