Sydney Creative is looking for a passionate and versatile sewing Workshop Instructor to join our team on a casual basis.
About the Role:
As a Sewing Instructor, you’ll be responsible for leading calm, engaging, and hands-on workshops. You'll run group sewing classes of up to 10 participants, and also one-on-one classes.
This role involves working evenings during the week, Saturday mornings and Some Sundays. Please note, this is a casual position with no set hours.
Some of our sewing classes are 3 hours long, whilst others are up to 6 hours long.
In addition to teaching, you will also be responsible for cutting fabrics for our classes, folding patterns, keeping the sewing trolley tidy, and updating inventory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Run a variety of sewing workshops with enthusiasm and patience
- Have a great understanding of sewing, including garment construction, sewing stretch, using the overlocker etc.
- Engage and support participants of all skill levels to ensure they have a fantastic experience
- Build a rapport with participants during sessions by engaging in conversation
- Prepare materials, cut fabric, and ensure the studio is set up for each class
- Assist with stock management
- Help with changeovers when other staff members arrives to set up for their class
- Assist with organising the studio and keeping the place clean and tidy
About You:
- Creative and versatile, with a strong passion for sewing
- Able to work on your feet for long hours.
- Experience in sewing woven fabrics, garment making from a commercial pattern, and confident sewing stretch fabric.
- Bonus if you have experience in pattern making, sewing dance costume and swimwear.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Comfortable leading groups of various sizes
- Not afraid of public speaking - the role requires you to stand in front of a group of people, introducing yourself, the space, and lead the session. Having the ability to project your voice across the room with confidence is key.

- Willing to work some evenings during the week, Saturday mornings, and Sundays.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30.35 – $35.00 per hour
