We are seeking an outstanding teaching & research academic with expertise in Speech Science to join our growing Speech and Hearing Sciences discipline within the Department of Linguistics.
- Salary Package: Senior Lecturer (Level C) from $155,236 to $178,523 p.a. or Associate Professor (Level D) from $186,433 – $205,067 p.a. plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.

The Role
As the successful candidate, you will make significant contributions to the Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Sciences through outstanding teaching and curriculum design. You will also lead a vibrant program of speech science research that is aligned with your expertise.
This teaching & research position offers a unique opportunity for an experienced academic to engage in world-leading scholarship that leverages and combines their own strengths with those of the Department of Linguistics and the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences.

You will have a considered and collaborative approach to your work, including a demonstrated ability to commence and grow relationships with colleagues, students, and collaborators.
You will have been awarded a PhD and may hold other qualifications relevant for your area(s) of teaching and research expertise. You will have a well-defined track record of scholarship that focuses on current issues in speech science.

About Us
This position is located in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS). FMHHS is ambitiously pushing the boundaries of progressive thinking and challenging what’s possible to solve some of the big issues of our time, both nationally and on a global scale.
The current education suite of FMHHS includes courses in clinical science, physiotherapy, medicine and public health, psychological sciences, linguistics, audiology, and speech pathology. FMHHS forms part of MU Health, which is an integrated academic health sciences enterprise that incorporates Macquarie University Hospital and primary and speciality clinics. FMHHS has active research programs in neurosciences, health systems and patient safety research, cancer medicine, and clinical psychological sciences, amongst others.

Essential Criteria for All Applicants
A PhD in speech science (or a cognate discipline);
Excellence in education focused on speech science (including phonetics and/or phonology), with evidence of a rigorous and contemporary approach that meets students’ needs;
Success in applying contemporary theories and methods relevant for speech science (including phonetics and/or phonology), with evidence of critical evaluation and/or innovation;
Success in creating new knowledge relevant for speech science, with an according track record of high-quality impactful scholarly publications and grants;
Success with supervision of graduate research, focusing on candidates completing Master of Research (or equivalent) and PhD degrees; and
Demonstrated ability to employ communication and negotiation skills to effect positive outcomes, particularly in fulfilling administrative tasks of an academic department.
Essential Criteria for Applicants Seeking Appointment at Level D
Sustained success with educational leadership, with strong evidence of innovation relevant for contemporary speech science education;
Sustained success with leading national and/or international teams in impactful programs of funded research; and
Success with supervision of graduate research, with completions for PhD candidatures.
Desirable Criteria for All Applicants
Recent success with industry engagement for research and/or education; and
Distinctive discipline expertise that aligns with the education and research strengths of the Department of Linguistics and/or FMHHS.
