Description of the role: We're seeking an experienced Data Architect for a 6-month contract to help design and deliver enterprise data solutions that support reporting, analytics, integration and business decision-making across William Buck's NSW and ACT business. Working within our Microsoft Azure data platform, you'll provide both architectural leadership and hands-on delivery expertise to build trusted, scalable and secure data solutions that create a single source of truth across the organisation.
What makes you ‘just right’:
Relevant degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data/Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
5+ years' experience designing and delivering enterprise data solutions in production environments.
Proven enterprise data architecture expertise, including conceptual, logical and physical data modelling across complex environments.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks, Power BI and modern Azure data platforms, including Lakehouse/medallion architectures.
Strong knowledge of data governance, metadata, lineage and data quality practices, with experience implementing governance frameworks and tools.
Experience designing ETL, integration and data pipeline solutions, supported by DevOps/DataOps, CI/CD and source control practices.
Ability to collaborate effectively across business, technology, security and data teams to deliver compliant, enterprise-grade solutions.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts for technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with a pragmatic approach to delivering outcomes.
Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g. DP-203, DP-600, AZ-305, DP-900, AZ-900) or data modelling or governance certifications (e.g. CDMP, DAMA-DMBOK aligned) highly regarded.
What your day might look like:
Partner with business and project teams to design and deliver data solutions that support reporting, analytics, automation and operational outcomes.
Lead the design and implementation of enterprise data architecture, data models, integrations and pipelines across a diverse application landscape.
Build and evolve our Azure-based data platform, including Microsoft Fabric, Databricks and Power BI, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure and fit for purpose.
Establish and promote data standards, governance practices and quality frameworks to create trusted, consistent and reusable data assets.
Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to translate requirements into practical data solutions and provide architectural guidance on key initiatives.
Mentor team members and contribute to growing data engineering and data management capability across the organisation.
Produce architecture artefacts, documentation and technical standards that support effective delivery and long-term maintainability.
Ensure data solutions meet security, privacy, compliance and operational requirements while supporting the organisation's strategic data vision.
