The Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) is seeking a consultant child & adolescent psychiatrist for 4 sessions per week to lead in an early intervention service at Northern Beaches for first episode psychosis, catering for young people up to 25 years old. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an evidence–based intervention and further an interest in psychotic illness.
The successful applicant will have experience in working with young people with mental health difficulties, will lead a team in the assessment and management of young people and families with first presentations of psychotic illness, inclusive of supervision of a registrar, as well as being part of the CYMHS on call roster or Adult Psychiatric on call roster, according to preference.

Purpose of the Position
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care at Northern Beaches (NB) Early Psychosis Intervention Service (EPIS). This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC) and as outlined in the CYMHS-EPIS model of care.
The position will provide clinical leadership to the NB-EPIS team, inclusive of comprehensive psychiatric assessment and management of patients referred to the service with a possible first episode psychotic illness, in addition to being part of multi-disciplinary reviews and team meetings and in keeping with current guidelines for the treatment of patients presenting with a first episode psychotic illness. The position holder will also provide supervision to team members and to junior psychiatric trainees.
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD inclusive of CYMHS community and inpatient services and other early intervention services (providing cover during times of leave) and help support and develop pathways to facilitate good clinical care for patients and their families across services.
The post-holder will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the service, to guide ongoing development of clinical practice.
As a Staff Specialist within the Child & Youth Mental Health service (CYMHS), the post-holder will also participate in a CYMHS staff-specialist on-call roster for NSLHD.
Selection Criteria

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (FRANZCP). Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.

Willingness to be involved in academic activities (teaching and research) and experience in teaching psychiatry to medical, nursing and allied health students/staff, psychiatry trainees and others as required and a willingness for ongoing involvement in such activities

Skills in negotiating with a wide range of people and organisations including working with, and engaging consumers and carers

Familiarity with quality improvement processes

Unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence and the ability to drive
