ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a critical leadership role at the forefront of professional standards, ethics and regulation.
As General Manager – Professional Standards and Ethics, you will lead CA ANZ’s Australian Professional Standards function, positioning the organisation as a trusted co-regulator and champion of high professional and ethical standards.
Reporting to the Group Executive – General Counsel and Corporate Assurance, you will be accountable for the design, execution and performance of the Professional Standards strategy, ensuring strong member outcomes, regulatory alignment and continuous improvement across the function.
Operating at an executive level, you will play a key role in shaping the profession nationally and globally — influencing regulators, governing bodies and senior stakeholders, while leading a complex, nationally significant function with broad stakeholder and regulatory reach.

Key responsibilities:

Lead and execute the Professional Standards strategy aligned to organisational priorities
Oversee a broad portfolio including member compliance, practice quality reviews, ethics and standards policy, and professional standards schemes
Own the performance, delivery, and continuous improvement of the function, including operational effectiveness and member outcomes
Provide expert strategic advice to the Executive and Board on professional standards, risk and regulatory matters
Represent CA ANZ across key regulatory and international forums (e.g. ASIC, APESB, IESBA and other global bodies)
Act as a trusted authority on professional and ethical standards, supporting CA ANZ’s co-regulatory mandate and public interest responsibilities
Lead, develop and empower a high-performing team, building capability, engagement and succession strength
Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with regulators, major accounting firms and industry stakeholders
Drive data-informed decision-making and system-level improvements to strengthen regulatory effectiveness and member experience
Oversee business planning, budgets, resources and performance outcomes across the function

ABOUT YOU

You are a highly credible and strategic leader with a strong track record operating in complex, regulated or professional environments.

You will bring:

Extensive senior leadership experience managing multi-functional portfolios and leading high-performing teams
Deep understanding of professional standards, ethics and regulatory frameworks (ideally within accounting, audit, risk or compliance environments)
Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at Executive, Board and regulatory level
Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic outcomes, drive change and navigate complex, high-stakes environments
Strong commercial acumen, with experience managing budgets, performance and operational delivery
Highly developed analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to address complex, system-wide challenges
Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to represent the organisation in public, regulatory and global forums
Relevant tertiary qualifications and professional membership (CA or equivalent), ideally at Fellow level
