## Transport Engineer
## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Transport Engineer to join our team and contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of transport infrastructure projects across Australia. This role is suited to a detail-oriented engineering professional with a strong understanding of transport systems and a commitment to improving the efficiency and safety of movement for both people and freight. The successful candidate will bring technical expertise, analytical capability, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects that meet the needs of communities and clients alike.
## Key Responsibilities
- Assess current and future travel demand patterns, incorporating population growth projections and changing community needs to inform infrastructure planning decisions
- Design and develop physical components of transportation systems, including highways, urban transit networks, rail corridors, air transport facilities, and freight logistics terminals
- Conduct traffic modelling and transport impact assessments to evaluate the performance of existing and proposed infrastructure
- Prepare detailed technical reports, engineering drawings, and specifications in support of planning approvals, tender documentation, and project delivery
- Collaborate with urban planners, civil engineers, government agencies, and stakeholders to develop integrated and sustainable transport solutions
- Analyse data relating to traffic volumes, accident history, freight movements, and public transport usage to identify issues and recommend improvements
- Provide technical advice on road safety audits, intersection design, active travel infrastructure, and public transport facilities
- Support the development of transport strategies, master plans, and network reviews for local, state, and federal clients
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and contribute to the preparation of development applications and infrastructure approvals
- Monitor and review project progress against programme and budget, ensuring deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations
- Contribute to business development activities including proposal writing, client engagement, and identification of project opportunities
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, or a related discipline
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia (or equivalent professional body), with progression towards Chartered status highly regarded
- Demonstrated experience in transport planning or traffic engineering within a consultancy, government, or infrastructure delivery environment
- Proficiency in traffic modelling and analysis software such as SIDRA, VISSIM, AIMSUN, or EMME
- Sound knowledge of relevant Australian standards, guidelines, and codes including Austroads publications and state-specific road design manuals
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and translate findings into practical recommendations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports and presenting findings to clients and stakeholders
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively within a team environment
- Full Australian driver's licence
## Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Transport Engineering, Transport Planning, or a related field
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia
- Experience working on infrastructure projects within an Australian state or local government context
- Familiarity with transport modelling platforms such as CUBE, TransCAD, or similar
- Knowledge of active transport planning principles, including cycling infrastructure and pedestrian network design
- Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS for spatial data analysis and mapping
