## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Chemical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design, development, and optimisation of chemical process systems and commercial-scale plant operations. The successful candidate will apply their technical expertise to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant processing of materials undergoing physical and chemical changes. This role suits an analytical and solutions-focused professional with a strong foundation in chemical engineering principles and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will play a key role in driving operational excellence while upholding the highest standards of safety and environmental responsibility.
## Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop detailed specifications for chemical process systems, including separation, heat transfer, reaction, and fluid handling operations, ensuring all designs meet engineering standards and project requirements
- Plan, implement, and oversee control systems for a range of chemical processes, including the storage and handling of solids, liquids, and gases
- Monitor the day-to-day operation and maintenance of plant equipment to maximise efficiency, minimise downtime, and ensure safe operating conditions are maintained at all times
- Diagnose technical malfunctions and process inefficiencies within chemical plant systems, and lead the implementation of remedial and corrective actions
- Verify that all materials, components, and equipment conform to relevant technical specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate and improve product utilisation strategies, identifying opportunities to reduce waste, increase yield, and enhance overall process performance
- Lead and contribute to pollution control initiatives, assessing environmental impact and implementing sustainable engineering solutions in line with applicable legislation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, safety, and procurement to support the successful delivery of projects and plant improvements
- Conduct process modelling, simulation, and analysis to support design decisions, troubleshooting efforts, and capacity planning activities
- Prepare and review technical documentation including engineering reports, process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and operating procedures
- Ensure all engineering activities are carried out in accordance with workplace health and safety (WHS) obligations and site-specific safety management systems
- Support the commissioning, testing, and validation of new or modified plant equipment and process systems
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline from a recognised Australian or overseas institution
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia (EA), or current membership highly regarded
- Demonstrated experience in the design and operation of chemical process systems within an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Strong working knowledge of process control, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass transfer, and reaction engineering
- Proficiency in engineering design and simulation tools such as Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB, or equivalent process modelling software
- Sound understanding of Australian and relevant international standards, codes of practice, and regulatory frameworks applicable to chemical plant operations
- Proven ability to diagnose complex plant malfunctions and develop practical, evidence-based solutions in a timely manner
- Solid understanding of workplace health and safety legislation, hazardous materials management, and risk assessment methodologies including HAZOP
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and liaise effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within project timelines and budget constraints
## Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualifications in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia
- Experience with pollution control systems, environmental compliance monitoring, or sustainability-focused process improvement
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, or continuous improvement frameworks
- Experience working within regulated industries such as oil and gas, mining and minerals processing, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, or water treatment
- Knowledge of functional safety standards and safety instrumented systems (SIS)
- Previous experience in project engineering or a lead engineering capacity
## Why Join Us?
- Be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking engineering team that values innovation, technical excellence, and professional growth
- Access ongoing learning and development opportunities, including support for further study, professional memberships, and industry conference attendance
- Enjoy a flexible and supportive work environment that promotes work-life balance and employee wellbeing
