Provisional Fellow positions in
Paediatric Cardiology are available for the 2027 Clinical Year, commencing from 01 February 2027.
The position involves a clinical role within the Cardiology Department (Heart Centre for Children (HCFC)) within The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN), as well as a leadership and educational role. This position provides an opportunity to develop skills important for a consultant role in the inpatient and outpatient setting, with the support from the Paediatric Cardiology Consultants as needed. The Fellow also works closely with many of the other clinical teams in inpatient and outpatient care both clinically and strategically. The education role includes clinical supervision within the Cardiology Department as well as the hospital wide education program.
The Heart Centre for Children provides cardiac care with a catchment area for children from primarily New South Wales with paediatric cardiology cover across both sites of Sydney Children's Hospital Network (The Children's Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick). On site involvement also occurs at the co-located Royal Hospital for Women and Westmead Hospital in some instances. In addition to standard services such as cardiac bypass, cardiac catheterisation and electrophysiology, the HCFC also offers paediatric cardiology subspeciality services including imaging, intervention, heart failure and transplantation, heritable cardiac conditions, arrhythmia, fetal and pulmonary hypertension. The current Fellows rotate through clinical inpatient cover, consult cover, outpatient services and invasive cardiac catheter. There is some opportunity for additional subspeciality exposure and research. The Fellow will work across the two network sites. On-call is one in four giving access to after hour's clinical material.
There may be up to one position available for someone without prior paediatric cardiology fellow (or equivalent) experience or echocardiography skills. More senior applicants may nominate to focus in superspecialty areas, for example:
- Advanced Imaging – for example Echocardiography, MRI,CT
- Electrophysiology / heritable cardiac conditions
- Interventional catheterisation
These will be allocated based on the needs of the department and in the event of more than one interested applicant, will be allocated as a competitive process.
Positions may be eligible for accreditation towards FRACP training in paediatric cardiology, if applicable. This is not gauranteed and is to be discussed at the interview. Trainees who have completed their FRACP requirements may not be eligible for these positions. The positions are not presently applicable to peer review or top up training. Trainees will be required to provide clinical support across The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network.
