About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to step into a newly created role where financial crime, data, technology and innovation come together to make a real impact.
As our Manager, Financial Crime Innovation, you’ll help shape and progress BOQ Group’s financial crime innovation agenda across key areas including transaction monitoring, customer risk assessment, screening, fraud, scams and related financial crime controls. This role has been created to help solve some of the more complex challenges sitting across financial crime, including increasing workloads, operational efficiency, detection effectiveness and the opportunity to move towards smarter, more sustainable ways of working.
This is an individual contributor role, but one with real influence. Rather than sitting within one vertical team, you’ll work horizontally across the business, partnering with teams across Financial Crime Operations, Fraud, Scams, Risk, Compliance, Technology, Data and other key business areas to drive uplift across the broader financial crime value chain.
A big part of this role will be using data-led thinking to improve how we detect, monitor and respond to financial crime risks. You’ll help review and optimise rules, scenarios, models and analytical frameworks, looking for ways to strengthen detection effectiveness, reduce false positives, improve operational efficiency and support better outcomes for customers.
You’ll also play a key role in helping BOQ Group move from more static, rules-based approaches towards more advanced capability across behavioural intelligence, automation, AI, machine learning and predictive analytics. This could include supporting proof-of-concepts, pilot activity, vendor assessments, detection optimisation, capability uplift initiatives and broader transformation work.
We’re looking for someone who can bring fresh thinking to complex problems and help translate emerging technologies into practical, governed and sustainable outcomes. You’ll also play an important role in identifying emerging threats, typologies and regulatory developments across money laundering, terrorism financing, sanctions, fraud and scams.
About you
You – our preferred candidate is someone who brings experience across financial crime, fraud, risk analytics, data analytics or a related banking or financial services environment, with a strong understanding of AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud and scam risk management.
You’re someone who enjoys working through complex problems and using data, insights and emerging technology to improve business outcomes. You may have worked across transaction monitoring, customer risk assessment, screening, regulatory reporting, detection rules, scenario tuning, model optimisation, coverage assessments or financial crime analytics.
You’ll ideally bring around experience across analytics, financial crime, fraud or a similar environment, with exposure to predictive and detective analytics, machine learning, behavioral intelligence or emerging technology initiatives.
Strong SQL skills will be important, and experience with tools such as SAS Enterprise Guide, Power BI, Excel or VBA would be valuable. Experience with Python, automation, AI, machine learning or predictive analytics would also be highly regarded, particularly where you’ve used these in financial crime, fraud, risk or analytics environments.
You might also bring exposure to financial crime platforms such as NetReveal, Safer Payments, SAS or similar transaction monitoring, screening or case management systems.
You’ll be able to build strong relationships across Operations, Compliance, Risk, Audit, Technology and Data teams, and you’ll enjoy working with others to solve problems, improve processes and deliver sustainable change. We want someone confident working with senior stakeholders and comfortable translating technical or complex information into clear, practical recommendations.
