Amadio Wines is seeking a full-time Sommelier to work across its South Australian hospitality and wine venues, including its Kangaroo Island restaurant (Vino e Cucina)/cellar door and its Felixstow cellar door/ function centre.
This is a hands-on wine service and cellar-door role requiring strong wine knowledge, customer service skills, and the ability to support wine tastings, food and wine pairing, cellar-door sales, restaurant service and private functions.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- managing wine selection and wine service across the business’s restaurant, cellar-door and function operations;
- applying extensive knowledge of wine to guide customers through Amadio’s wine range;
- Storing, monitoring and rotating wine stock;
- assisting with the development and maintenance of wine lists;
- taking beverage orders and relaying orders to bar and service staff;
- opening bottles, pouring wines and serving beverages to patrons;
- working with chefs/cooks and service staff to pair food with wine;
- analysing patrons’ taste preferences, dining requirements and budget parameters to recommend suitable wines;
- training front-of-house and service staff on the wine list, wine service standards and product knowledge;
- supporting wine service for functions, events, long lunches and private bookings;
- removing empty bottles and used glasses from tables, and refilling or replacing glasses as required;
- maintaining a high standard of presentation, customer service, hygiene and responsible service of alcohol.
Skills and Experience
Applicants must have:
· A relevant qualification and at least one year or work experience, or three years of relevant work experience where a qualification is not held.
- strong knowledge of wine, wine styles, varietals, regions and wine service;
- experience in a restaurant, wine bar, cellar door, café, hotel, function venue or similar hospitality environment;
- experience conducting or supporting wine tastings and customer wine recommendations;
- ability to work with chefs/cooks and service staff to support food and wine pairing;
- strong customer service and communication skills;
- ability and willingness to work across multiple sites, including Kangaroo Island and Felixstow;
- ability to work evenings, weekends, functions and peak tourism periods as required;
- current Responsible Service of Alcohol certification, or ability to obtain it before commencing.
