The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate take-offs, cost estimates, and quotations for residential plasterboard projects. This role plays a critical part in securing profitable work for the business by ensuring project scope is assessed correctly, pricing is accurate, and quotations are delivered in a professional and timely manner.
The purpose of this role is to support the business by producing well-considered and commercially sound estimates that reflect project requirements, labour and material costs, and company margin expectations. The Estimator also supports the handover of successful projects by ensuring project information is clear, complete, and ready for delivery.
On a day-to-day basis, the Estimator may be responsible for:
- Reviewing new plans, tender invitations, and quote requests
- Completing quantity take-offs and preparing estimate costings
- Requesting supplier or subcontractor pricing where required
- Preparing and issuing quotations
- Following up missing information, clarifications, or pending quote outcomes
- Updating quote registers and maintaining estimating records
- Assisting with variation pricing or revised quotations
- Communicating with builders, suppliers, and internal staff regarding scope, pricing, and estimate details
- Supporting the Owner / Director with tender priorities, pricing reviews, and estimating workload management
The successful person in this role will ideally have:
- Previous estimating experience within plasterboard, commercial fit-out, construction, or a related trade industry
- Strong understanding of plasterboard systems, materials, and labour requirements
- Ability to read plans, specifications, and tender documents confidently
- Experience completing quantity take-offs and preparing construction quotations
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Experience with estimating software, take-off software, or construction management systems advantageous (PlanSwift, Buildexact)
- Strong numerical ability and understanding of job costing principles
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tender or quote deadlines
- Professional communication skills and ability to liaise confidently with builders, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
Pay: $70,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year
