Vinery Stud is seeking both full-time and part-time night watch foaling attendants to start in the first week of August for the upcoming 2026 foaling season.
Located in the heart of the Hunter Valley, just 10 minutes from Scone and 20 minutes from Muswellbrook, Vinery has a proud history of producing elite racehorses. As a foaling attendant, you will play a vital role in helping welcome the next generation of Vinery stars and join a professional and supportive team that is committed to excellence in thoroughbred breeding.
The Role
- Check mares regularly overnight.
- Administer treatments to mares and foals.
- Assist the onsite vet when necessary.
- Monitor the ongoing wellbeing of both mares and foals.
- Work 12-hour shifts with a colleague, starting in August.
About You
The successful applicant will possess:
- Exceptional horse husbandry skills.
- Previous experience foaling down mares.
- Demonstrate knowledge in dealing with normal and abnormal foalings.
- Excellent judgement and rational decision-making.
- The ability to work well alone and within a team.
- Have an understanding and appreciation of WHS procedures.
- Strong communication and record-keeping abilities.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to achieving high standards.

Reporting directly to the Stud Manager and Assistant Stud Manager, you will play a key role in preparing elite thoroughbreds for sale and future racing success.
Vinery Stud has a proud history of producing and consigning quality horses to the industry’s premier sales, including Magic Millions, Inglis Easter, Inglis Classic, Inglis Premier and other major Australian sales. This role offers the opportunity to work with some of the best bloodlines in the country within a professional and progressive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily care, education and development of yearlings.
- Oversee all aspects of yearling preparation for major sales.
- Develop and implement feeding, exercise and handling programs.
- Monitor horse health, welfare and condition to the highest industry standards.
- Coordinate veterinary, farrier and specialist care requirements.
- Maintain accurate treatment, health and management records.
- Lead, mentor and develop yearling staff while fostering a positive team culture.
- Ensure all horses are presented to the highest possible standard.
- Assist with sale preparation, inspections and on-site sale operations.
- Work closely with the Stud Manager and Assistant Stud Manager to achieve operational goals and maintain Vinery’s reputation for excellence.
About You

- Proven experience in yearling preparation within a commercial thoroughbred stud operation.
- Excellent horse handling and horsemanship skills.
- Strong understanding of equine health, nutrition and welfare.

- Previous experience preparing horses for major yearling sales will be highly regarded.
