Band 5 - $77,357 - $88,159 yearly, plus 12% statutory superannuation
Provide administrative support to Council decision-making processes at Wellington Shire Council, where governance promotes transparency and accountability. As a Corporate Governance Officer, you’ll play a key role in supporting Council and Councillors by preparing meetings, coordinating agendas and minutes, and providing high-quality administrative support across governance and compliance activities. This is a rewarding opportunity for an organised, detail-focused professional to contribute to the smooth running of Council business while building skills in a supportive team environment.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Experience in governance, compliance or local government
- Understanding of the Local Government Act and regulations
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work well with others and build relationships
What you'll be doing:
- Oversee a systematic approach to work schedules and communications, including the preparation and coordination of Council reports and agendas.
- Minute taking at Council meetings on the first and third Tuesday evening of each month.
- Cultivate collaborative relationships and provide an exceptional level of service and advice across Council.
- Manage Councillor intranet page and maintain the governance intranet sites.
- Assist in the coordination of Council Elections (every 4 years) and assist the preparation of Councillor induction and training.
- Undertake special projects and assignments as required, including fulfilling legislative requirements
- Other responsibilities and projects as directed by Coordinator Governance & Strategy and Senior Governance & Reporting Officer.
What you'll bring:
- You’re organised, proactive, and take pride in getting the details right while understanding the bigger picture.
- Knowledge of local government governance frameworks and the Local Government Act 2020 is desirable but not essential
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing
- A high level of discretion and ability to handle confidential matters
- A collaborative, team-player mindset aligned with Council’s values
As our ideal candidate you will take initiative and have the demonstrated capacity to produce high quality work within strict timeframes in an accurate and efficient manner. You will have excellent time management skills and a commitment and proven ability to provide the highest level of service for our internal and external stakeholders with emphasis on our Councillors.
