About the Role

Provide legal advice and representation to clients of Legal Aid NSW, including in more complex matters, in accordance with Legal Aid NSW policies and guidelines in order to contribute to the implementation of Legal Aid NSW’s mission to deliver high quality legal services to our clients and to assist them to resolve their legal problems. Supervise and lead junior legal staff in achieving this aim.

The Albury office of Legal Aid is located in downtown Albury. The office is a busy mixed practice including specialist services who provide legal services to vulnerable people in Albury and surrounding towns. Albury is a thriving regional centre sitting on the northern bank of the Murray River. Albury is an agricultural and transport hub with an abundance of parklands including its botanic gardens and recreational facilities along the meandering course of the Murray River. About You

You are an experienced criminal lawyer with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, client-focused services, particularly for disadvantaged clients. You have a genuine desire to lead and support a team to optimise service provision and improve client outcomes. You bring well-developed organisational and management skills, enabling you to effectively balance a demanding legal practice with supporting day-to-day office operations. You have experience managing a diverse caseload, including complex matters, and communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.

You have demonstrated skill in people management, providing mentoring, guidance, and support to develop staff capability. You contribute to service improvements and foster a collaborative, respectful team environment. You are adaptable, professional, and motivated, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and delivering accessible, high-quality legal services.

Essential Requirements

Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency or a valid visa to work in Australia

Undertake relevant pre-employment checks such as Working with Children Check, Criminal Record Check, and Conduct Service Check

Be admitted or eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW

Provide a current NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us

Certain roles within Criminal Law (mainly in the regional areas) require a valid Driver Licence and the ability to travel to circuit courts including overnight travel.

We may use this recruitment to create a Talent Pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.
