Cannabis Doctors Tasmania is seeking a General Practitioner to join our growing telehealth team.
We are an independently owned, clinician-led private practice providing medicinal cannabis consultations for patients with chronic and treatment-resistant conditions across Australia.
This role offers genuine flexibility, strong clinical support, and the ability to work within a practice that prioritises patient care and clinical independence above prescribing targets or corporate KPIs.

We are completely consultation-fee funded and receive no financial support from pharmacies, manufacturers, or product suppliers. Prescribing decisions remain entirely in the hands of the treating doctor.
Flexible Hours
Work as little as 4 hours per week or build a larger sessional practice.
Appointments can be scheduled between 8am and 9pm, seven days per week, allowing doctors to fit work around family commitments, other clinical roles, hospital work, or training programs.
With continued growth in patient demand and upcoming changes within our medical team, new doctors can generally expect their sessions to fill quickly.
Remuneration
Doctors are paid a percentage of billings
Typical appointment structure:
- Initial consultations: 30 minutes ($139)
- Follow-up consultations: 15 minutes ($99)
Indicative earnings per hour:
- Initial consultations only:
- $166–181+ per hour
- Follow-up consultations only:
- $238–257+ per hour
Most doctors fall somewhere between these figures, with the proportion of follow-up patients generally increasing over time.
The Role
You will provide telehealth consultations for patients with chronic and complex health conditions who have not achieved adequate symptom control through conventional treatment options.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive clinical assessments
- Reviewing previous treatments and medical history
- Assessing suitability for medicinal cannabis where appropriate
- Developing individualised treatment plans
- Providing ongoing follow-up and monitoring
- Working collaboratively with patients' regular healthcare providers
Our administration team manages bookings, patient communication, prescription processing, and general coordination, allowing doctors to focus on clinical care.
Our Clinical Approach
We support thoughtful, evidence-informed prescribing and encourage doctors to practise within their own clinical comfort level.
Key clinic principles include:
- Brand-agnostic prescribing
- Patients are free to use their preferred pharmacy
- Detailed correspondence to patients after appointments
- Letters sent to the patient's regular GP following reviews
- Focus on affordable and clinically appropriate treatment options
- Structured follow-up and monitoring processes
- Collaborative care alongside existing healthcare teams
Whether a doctor takes a more conservative or more progressive approach to prescribing, we support individual clinical judgement.
About You
You will have:
- Current AHPRA registration
- At least 3 years of clinical experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Confidence working via telehealth
- An interest in chronic disease management and complex care
Previous medicinal cannabis experience is not required.
