Position Summary
The Qualified Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of the organisation and ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, taxation legislation, Fair Work requirements, and regulatory obligations. The role supports strategic financial management, budgeting, reporting, payroll oversight, grant acquittals, auditing preparation, and financial governance across all organisational programs and services.
The Accountant will work closely with management to maintain accurate financial records, support funding compliance, improve financial systems, and ensure accountability in line with Australian financial and corporate standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and reports.
- Manage daily accounting functions including accounts payable and receivable.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Monitor organisational cash flow and financial sustainability.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and ledger maintenance.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Prepare end-of-financial-year reports and audit documentation.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and grants.
Compliance & Regulatory Requirements
- Ensure compliance with:
- Australian Accounting Standards (AASB)
- Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements
- Fair Work Act requirements
- ASIC and ACNC financial reporting obligations
- GST, PAYG, Superannuation, and payroll tax obligations
- Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, payroll reporting, and Single Touch Payroll (STP).
- Ensure accurate grant acquittals and funding compliance reporting.
- Maintain confidentiality and financial integrity standards.
Payroll & Human Resources Support
- Oversee payroll processing and staff entitlements.
- Ensure compliance with:
- Superannuation Guarantee legislation
- Leave entitlements
- Award interpretation and Fair Work obligations
- Monitor employee reimbursements and allowances.
Audit & Risk Management
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and improve financial policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate document control and record keeping systems.
Systems & Administration
- Use accounting software such as:
- QuickBooks
- Xero
- MYOB
- Microsoft Excel
- Maintain electronic filing systems and financial databases.
- Support management with financial analysis and reporting requirements.
Essential Selection CriteriaQualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance.
- CPA Australia or CA ANZ qualification (or working towards).
- Current knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and taxation legislation.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ accounting experience within Australia.
- Strong understanding of:
- AASB Standards
- GST and BAS reporting
- Payroll and Superannuation compliance
- Financial reporting requirements
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Experience preparing grant acquittals and financial compliance reports.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and accounting software skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within:
- Not-for-profit organisations
- Community services
- NDIS sector
- Remote or Aboriginal community organisations
- Knowledge of ACNC and ASIC reporting obligations.
- Experience with government-funded programs and grant management.

Salary
Indicative Salary Range:
$60,000 – $80,000 per annum plus Superannuation
(Dependent on qualifications and experience)
