Cook / Chef – Boutique Café - Merak GF Artisan Deli Café
We are looking for an experienced Cook or Chef to join our small kitchen team at Merak GF.
This is not a large commercial kitchen role where you become one of many. We are a busy boutique-style café with a close-knit team, and we are looking for someone who wants to become a valued and reliable part of it.
We need someone with existing cooking or chef experience who can hit the ground running with the fundamentals, while being willing to learn our menu, systems and the Merak way of doing things.
Hours & Training
The position will initially kick off at approximately 20–25 hours per week while you complete your training across our kitchen.
Starting days:
- Wednesday (approx. 6.30am to 2.30pm)
- Thursday (morning & afternoon)
- Saturday (day & evening shift till approx. 8.30pm)
- Sunday (morning & afternoon)
Once you are fully trained and confident across opening, closing, breakfast, lunch and our Friday/Saturday evening service, hours are expected to increase to approximately 30+ hours per week.
Tuesday will also be added to the regular schedule in the future once you have gained the experience and confidence required to work across the role.
There is also an opportunity for permanent part-time employment for the right person.
The Role
This is a hands-on kitchen position covering all aspects of our daily kitchen operations, including:
- Breakfast and lunch service
- Saturday evening service once trained
- Griddle cooking, oven work
- Plating and presentation
- Food preparation & knife work
- Opening and closing procedures
- Cleaning and maintaining an organised kitchen
- Stock counts, FIFO and stock rotation, & sdte checking
- Monitoring and restocking deli cabinet items
- Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards
- General kitchen duties as required
What We Are Looking For
You will need:
- Previous cook or chef experience
- Strong basic cooking skills
- Good knife skills, good plating and presentation skills
- Experience working during busy service, especially weekend service
- The ability to work efficiently and remain organised
- A strong understanding of kitchen cleanliness and food safety
- Reliability and good communication
- The ability to follow established procedures and systems
- A willingness to learn our menu and methods
- The ability to work independently once fully trained
- A positive attitude towards cleaning, preparation, stock management
- To be able to travel to Redland Bay, 4165
Who This Role Will Suit
This position would suit someone who enjoys working within a small, fast-paced boutique café where their contribution genuinely matters.
You will not disappear into a large kitchen team. You will work closely with our chefs, cooks, pastry team, owners and Front of House team, so finding the right personality and team fit is just as important to us as finding the right skills.
