Package$103,077 to $107,101 per annum (QLGIA (Stream A) Level 5 including an above award payment), depending on qualifications, skills and experience.

Join our Communities and Environment portfolio as a Building Certifier and play a key role in delivering Council’s commercial building certification services. This position ensures compliance with relevant legislation and building codes while fostering strong relationships with the community and internal stakeholders and interested candidates will have demonstrated customer services experience supported with effective written and verbal skills.

Candidates will have strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code of Australia, and relevant standards and the ability to interpret plans and drawings with excellent attention to detail. Key skills requirement for this role is proven time management, organisational ability to meet statutory deadlines.

What you’ll be doing:

Assess and determine development applications for building works and concurrence agency assessments under the Queensland Development Code.
Administer requirements of the Building Act and associated regulations, including compliance reviews.
Conduct inspections across all building classes and swimming pool safety during construction stages, issuing certificates and preparing related documentation.
Provide expert technical advice on building matters to the public, Council, and internal teams.
Represent Council as an expert witness in Building/Development Tribunals when required.
Contribute to policy updates, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records.
Deliver exceptional customer service and uphold Council’s values and behaviours.

Mandatory Requirements for the role:

Bachelor of Building Surveying and Certification or Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying and substantial building certification and construction experience.
Ability to obtain accreditation as a Building Certifier with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (minimum Level Three Building Certifier)
Eligibility for membership to the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors.
Construction Industry Induction (White Card).
Possess and maintain a current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
