Annual Salary Range: $129,464 - $142,665 plus superannuation

Location: McKell Building, Haymarket - Sydney (at least two days a week in-office)
About this role
The Information and Privacy Commission (IPC) is an independent NSW integrity agency that supports the Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner as statutory officeholders. The two Commissioners oversee all areas of the NSW public sector, including universities and local government, with the key objective of supporting sector integrity and safeguarding individual rights to access to government information and privacy.
The IPC also provides input, guidance and comment across a broad range of sector activities where issues of privacy and/or transparency arise.
As the Senior Policy Officer, you will work as a member of a dynamic and supportive team to perform complex policy and project work focused on identifying emerging issues of strategic importance to the IPC’s privacy and transparency-focused remit. You will be responsible for preparing policy advice and guidance to the Commissioners as well as to all IPC staff, Managers and Directors to support legislative responsibilities and functions of the IPC.
Your work will include advising on policy initiatives and programs involving digital government, consumer protection and major public infrastructure.
You will also undertake research, data collection, and analysis activities to produce a diverse range of IPC reports, policies and guidelines that support the IPC’s performance management reporting framework and activities which includes reporting on whole of government and agency performance and to facilitate agency compliance with the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 GIPA and Privacy legislation.
Your key accountabilities include:

Provide expert policy advice and information to the Information Commissioner, the Privacy Commissioner and other relevant stakeholders on matters within the Commissioners’ statutory remit of privacy and government transparency / information access

Research, analyse and review complex policy issues, identifying emerging issues, developing evidence-based options, and recommended solutions to resolve problems and mitigate risks

Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the NSW government sector, facilitating their engagement in, and contribution to, the identification and development of policy solutions and to inform policy decision-making

Monitor, evaluate and report on the development and/or implementation of policies to identify issues and ensure the achievement of desired outcomes

Prepare correspondence, written reports, publications, and briefs for and on behalf of the Information Commissioner and the Privacy Commissioner, that are informative and aligned with agency requirements

Provide support and coordination of the IPC’s communications, human resources and procurement activity, including record maintenance and governance
About you
We are looking for a motivated individual to join the dynamic and supportive team at IPC to support the Information Commissioner and the Privacy Commissioner in their statutory functions by providing advice and contributing to and supporting projects.
You will be a capable and dedicated professional looking to join a fast-paced environment and have experience in assisting in managing competing priorities, working with multiple stakeholders in ensuring the delivery of quality outcomes within tight timeframes.
Your ability to think strategically, supported by strong review and analysis skills will also be important to your success.
To be successful in this role you will have:

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.

Sound experience in undertaking performance monitoring, reporting and measuring activities in a public sector environment.

Superior policy, research and analytical skills and demonstrated ability in the analysis of data using quantitative and qualitative approaches, including the capacity to compile and interpret complex data/issues rapidly and accurately.

Strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality customer-focused solutions.

An ethical and professional approach to your work, including a sound understanding (or ability to quickly develop an understanding) of relevant legislative, policy and governance frameworks.
