About the role:
No two days are the same in this rewarding role. You'll spend your time building meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, providing culturally safe, holistic and respectful support that empowers Aboriginal people, families and communities to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing related to drug and alcohol use.
Whether you're supporting Aboriginal people and their families through appointments at our service or connecting through community outreach, you'll play an important role in improving access to healthcare and helping Aboriginal people feel heard, understood, and supported.
As a valued member of our multidisciplinary team, you'll bring your cultural knowledge, lived experience, and community connections to the table. Your insights will help shape the way we deliver care, strengthen cultural responsiveness across the service, and ensure our programs continue to meet the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Where you’ll be working:
Join our welcoming Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services team on the Lower Mid North Coast, based at Taree Community Health on Biripi Country. Nestled on the banks of the beautiful Manning River, Taree offers the best of both worlds—a relaxed regional lifestyle surrounded by stunning national parks, scenic waterways, and peaceful rainforest trails. It is a familiar place of mob and connection for you, or a returning to Country and kin.
In this rewarding role, you'll be a valued member of a supportive multidisciplinary team, working alongside colleagues who are passionate about improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Together with your team, you'll build trusted relationships, empower clients to achieve their goals, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of the communities you serve.
The Aboriginal workforce is a growing network within the Taree health campus. There will be opportunities to connect, learn and share amongst other Aboriginal staff across other services along with the Aboriginal staff within the Drug and Alcohol service.
About you
We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and keen to develop their knowledge and skills in the drug and alcohol sector.
You'll have strong connections within the local Aboriginal community and enjoy building trusted relationships with Aboriginal people and their families. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, you'll provide culturally safe support, advocate for clients' needs, and help connect people with the right services to achieve better health outcomes.
You'll be supported by your multidisciplinary colleagues, your Line Manager, and the DACS Aboriginal Manager, with access to ongoing professional development and learning opportunities to help you grow in your career.
Requirements
Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification along with a desire to complete a Certificate IV Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice) or other relevant health qualification deemed appropriate by the manager, following appointment to the position through supported education, training and study leave.
Eligible to drive in NSW and the ability to travel as required
