ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is a globally recognised engineering and project delivery organisation is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join its Project Management Systems team on a major capital program.
This is not a standard documentation role. You will be working at the intersection of governance, process design, and communication – translating complex project management frameworks into clear, accessible, and adoptable standards, procedures, and guidelines that project teams actually use.
You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and functional leads to understand how work gets done, then write the procedures, frameworks, and decision tools that make it happen consistently. Your output will shape how projects are planned, governed, and delivered across a global portfolio.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Authoring, reviewing, and improving project management standards, operating procedures, guidelines, templates, and user guides
- Mapping current-state processes and developing clear procedural documentation to embed improved ways of working
- Applying structured design principles to ensure procedures are complete, internally consistent, and aligned across project lifecycle phases
- Embedding assurance milestones, governance checkpoints, and decision-making frameworks into documented standards
- Designing supporting flowcharts, checklists, and visual aids to ensure usability and drive adoption
- Coordinating with project managers, engineers, and functional leads to validate content accuracy and stakeholder relevance
- Managing document control and compliance with document management standards across a major program
- Supporting workshop facilitation and stakeholder engagement to gather input and refine outputs
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in technical writing within project delivery, EPCM, engineering, government, or defence environments
- Proven ability to produce standards, procedures, and governance frameworks – not just reports or communications
- Strong understanding of project lifecycle phases, phase-gate models, and project management principles (PRINCE2, PMI/PMP, or equivalent)
- Experience reviewing and mapping business or project processes, identifying gaps, and translating findings into clear written documentation
- Exceptional written English – precise, structured, and accessible across technical and non-technical audiences
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with equivalent PPM tools
Highly Regarded
- Experience with digital transformation, PPM platform implementation, or portfolio management systems
- Familiarity with Perago CCMS systems (solution design, administration, or certified user)
- Experience facilitating workshops and engaging senior stakeholders to align on governance and delivery frameworks
ABOUT YOU
You think in systems. You understand that a procedure is only as good as its adoption – so you write with the reader in mind, not just the subject matter expert. You bring discipline and precision to everything you produce, and you know how to navigate complex organisations to get the inputs you need.
You are equally comfortable sitting with a project manager to unpack how a process actually works and presenting a governance framework to an executive audience. You take quality seriously, you manage your own work without being micromanaged, and you treat document integrity as non-negotiable.
WHY THIS ROLE
- Work on a high-profile, globally significant capital program
- Shape PM systems and governance frameworks used across a major portfolio
- Genuine opportunity to make a lasting impact on how projects are planned and delivered
- Perth/Sydney/Brisbane/Melbourne based, initial 6 months contract role engagement with possible extension
- Work with a collaborative and experienced team
