About Bis at Karara
Bis has proudly partnered with Karara Mining, located approximately
200 km southeast of Geraldton, WA. Karara is the
largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West region, offering a stable, well-resourced, and innovative work environment.
At Karara, Bis operates a
mobile Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) — a first-of-its-kind system in Australia. This mobile TSF plays a key role in sustainable mining, managing approximately
9 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of dry stack tailings. The system operates
24/7 and is designed to safely and efficiently transport tailings material at an average rate of
2,000 tonnes per hour.

About the Role
As a
Electrical Maintainer, you’ll play a key role in supporting Bis’ operations at the
Karara Tailings Storage Facility, home to our
mobile, extendable conveyor system — a cutting-edge setup designed to optimise performance, reduce costs, and lower environmental impact.
You’ll be part of a skilled team of around
40 professionals, working closely with operators, trades, and leadership to keep equipment running safely and efficiently.
What You’ll Be Doing
Reporting to the
Electrical Lead, your responsibilities include:
- Conducting scheduled electrical maintenance and safety checks across plant equipment.
- Planning and executing isolation procedures for shutdowns and maintenance.
- Performing HV isolations and responding to breakdowns as needed.
- Managing spares control systems and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Carrying out workplace inspections, fault tests, and compliance reporting.
- Ensuring all work meets safety, environmental, and operational standards.
What You’ll Bring
- Current A Grade Electrical Licence and WA High Voltage Licence.
- HV Isolators ticket and valid driver’s licence.
- Senior First Aid & CPR (St John Ambulance) certification.
- Tickets in EWP, Confined Space, Working at Heights, and White Card. (All completed/refreshed within the last 2 years)
- Experience with isolation procedures and strong fault-finding skills.
