Primary objective
Whilst under appropriate supervision, provide administrative and investigative support for community based offender programs,
timely provision of information to the Court and the assessment, induction, monitoring of bailees and/or management of a caseload
of community based adult offenders.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in the implementation, administration and evaluation of community based sentencing options, such as community work
orders and home detention.
2. Under appropriate supervision, monitor and manage a caseload of community-based offenders in accordance with requirements
of legislation and Department of Corrections policy and procedures.
3. Provide information, assistance and services as required to partner stakeholders, including offenders on community based
orders, prisoners and their families.
4. As directed assist with investigations for the Local Court, Supreme Courts and Parole Boards including preparing case notes
and undertaking background research.
5. Undertake a surveillance assessment of the proposed place of residence of individuals being placed on Orders by the Court to
assess suitability.
6. Undertake and complete the installation and retrieval of electronic monitoring equipment as directed by the Court or Parole
Board,
7. Work with all stakeholders in the management of community based sentencing options such as community work orders and
home detention.
8. As directed, undertake a range of administrative tasks to support the delivery of the community based offender program.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Good written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
2. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and in particular actively engage with Aboriginal people,
communities and various government and non-government agencies.
3. Proven ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, meet deadlines and work effectively with minimal supervision.
4. Demonstrated sound ability to use a range of computer systems, particularly word processing applications to draft reports,
document records and prepare correspondence.
5. Capacity to work effectively in a busy work environment with a high level of flexibility, initiative and self-motivation.
Desirable
1. Experience working with Community Corrections programs, the Criminal Justice system or related fields.
Further information
Successful applicant must hold a manual Northern Territory Driver’s Licence and may be required to travel within regional and
remote communities and camp out when required. Travel may be by means of road and air, including on outback roads in four-
wheel drives, light aircraft and boats. The Department of Corrections has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke
anywhere on departmental premises, facilities or in vehicles, nor whilst working off-site. The preferred applicant/s will be required
to complete a pre-employment questionnaire, and the successful applicant/s will be required to undergo a criminal history check
(confirmed by fingerprints and name check) prior to commencement of employment. An adverse criminal history will not necessarily
exclude an applicant from this position. All Department of Corrections s employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
