Primary objective
Work towards fellowship and independent practice on the Australian General Practice Training Program with the Royal Australian
College of General Practice whilst caring for and improving the health of patients in remote communities and homelands of the
region.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide comprehensive primary care medical services to designated remote communities through regular scheduled visits with
ongoing telephone and administrative support at the level expected for stage of training under the required level of supervision
2. Communicate effectively with patients, their families and carers in an age and culturally appropriate manner
3. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work
being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services.
4. Develop and maintain knowledge and skills in clinical and public health medicine through continuous medical education,
professional development, peer review, research, teaching, quality improvement activities and clinical audits as appropriate.
5. Participate in education and training within the PPHC team which may also include other Primary Health Care (PHC) providers
including Primary Health Care nurses and Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHP).
6. Participate in the collection and maintenance of computerised client health information including Medicare billing and
workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Medical Practitioner eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
2. By employment commencement, be accepted on the Australian General Practice Training Program with RACGP
3. Broad postgraduate medical experience, particularly in one or more of the following disciplines: Aboriginal health, critical care,
women’s health, paediatrics, Mental health and primary health care.
4. Demonstrated interpersonal skills that promote effective teamwork, patient safety, and patient-centred care
5. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
6. Demonstrated ability to perform at current Training level
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
8. Drivers licence or the ability to obtain.
9. Ability to travel by light aircraft, ferry or road in/to remote localities
Desirable
1. Ability to stay overnight in communities
2. Previous experience living and working in remote communities or other resource-limited settings.
