About Fairfield Early Learning Centre

At Fairfield Early Learning Centre, we are committed to nurturing the potential of every child through a safe, inclusive, and stimulating early learning environment. Located in the heart of Melbourne’s Inner North East, we celebrate curiosity, support individual growth, and build genuine partnerships with families and our local community to give children the strongest possible start in life.

We are now seeking a highly experienced and credentialled Early Childhood Teacher to take a leading role in our Early Years program and contribute to the ongoing quality and growth of our centre.

About the Role

This is a full-time, permanent position for an Early Childhood/Kindergarten Director who will lead the delivery and continuous improvement of our early years program across our kindergarten cohort. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in early childhood pedagogy, a strong commitment to child-centred practice, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with children, families and colleagues alike.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Design and deliver a dynamic, play-based daily program across our indoor and outdoor learning environments, selecting appropriate resources, provocations and equipment that respond to children's observed interests and developmental stages
Implement a broad range of experiential learning opportunities — including sensory exploration, collaborative group projects and open-ended creative play — to build each child's physical coordination, emotional resilience, social confidence and cognitive foundations
Create language-rich learning experiences throughout the daily routine, including teacher-facilitated literacy circles, dramatic play, music and movement, and small-group conversations, to strengthen children's communication skills and early literacy development
Conduct ongoing, systematic observation and documentation of each child's learning and wellbeing, interpreting developmental data to inform forward planning and to identify any children who may require additional support, health referrals or early intervention
Monitor the daily health, safety and nutritional wellbeing of children in our care, maintaining accurate records and escalating concerns through appropriate safeguarding and duty-of-care channels in line with centre policy
Build genuine, trust-based relationships with families by sharing regular, meaningful updates on their child's progress - through daily conversations, written documentation and scheduled family conferences
Attend and actively contribute to staff meetings, curriculum planning sessions, parent information evenings and relevant committee meetings, supporting a culture of shared professional responsibility
Contribute to Fairfield ELC's family engagement initiatives, transition-to-school programs and community partnership activities that extend children's learning beyond the centre environment
Provide structured mentoring, guidance and formal feedback to pre-service educators completing professional placement, in line with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
Collaborate with the centre leadership team on curriculum review, quality improvement planning and compliance with the National Quality Framework and Education and Care Services National Regulations

Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Attributes

The successful candidate must hold:

A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in early childhood education or teaching (a Master of Teaching or Master of Education is highly regarded)
A current Working with Children Check (VIC)
Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

A minimum of 6 years' experience working as an early childhood educator across diverse early learning settings. Experience in Australia is advantageous.
Deep working knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), National Quality Standards (NQS) and the Education and Care Services National Regulations
A demonstrated ability to design, implement and critically evaluate early childhood programs that reflect contemporary pedagogy and respond to the individual needs of each child
Strong experience building inclusive learning communities that welcome children with additional needs and from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
A track record of meaningful family and community engagement, including facilitating parent communication, reporting and partnership programs
Experience supervising, mentoring and professionally developing teaching staff or student educators
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with children, families, colleagues and external stakeholders
Experience working within internationally accredited or curriculum-aligned frameworks (e.g., IB PYP, COBIS) is highly desirable
Bilingual proficiency (English and French) is an advantage in our diverse community setting

The Advance Childcare Management team has in excess of 35 years’ experience in varied roles in the industry and we understand what it takes to run a high-quality childcare centre. Our centres include Wantirna South Early Learning Centre, Hadfield Early Learning Centre, South Street Early Learning Centre, Fitzroy Early Learning Centre and Grimshaw St Early Learning Centre.

Pay: $105,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
