About Cleaning Services

The NSW Government’s reforms to public sector cleaning services entail the NSW Department of Education taking over management of the state’s Whole-of-Government cleaning contracts from January 1, 2026.

A team has been established to deliver an enhanced Whole-of-Government cleaning contract for alignment and delivery of all program streams. Including Governance, ITD, Recruitment and Risk Management.

About the role

The Cleaning Facilities Senior Advisor provides a full range of cleaning services compliance, operational coordination, local service delivery performance, and administration support functions across the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie region.

The successful person will be customer and solutions focused and be happy in a role to make their own. The role requires someone to be flexible, collaborative and organised. They bring a supportive team focussed approach and adapt easily in a dynamic environment.

Some of the main responsibilities are however not limited to:

Work closely and collaboratively with a team of supervisors assisting with operational challenges, inductions, customer escalations, staff management matters, quality concerns, and the resolution of service delivery issues
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with principals, site managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to support the delivery of contracted cleaning services in line with service standards
Support any resource or rostering changes for cleaning services across the region
Ensure compliance with all WHSE requirements, including chemical handling, PPE use, and safe work practices. Troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly, escalating as necessary, in accordance with Department of Education policy and contractual requirements.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in cleaning service delivery and monitoring systems
Regular travel to schools and other government agency sites across the region

About you

Knowledge and experience in the cleaning industry is highly regarded
Experience with compliance and WHS obligations is desirable
Strong MS Office skills
Be confident managing stakeholders at all levels
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated experience working in a matrix organisation and a constant environment of change
Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

Current driver's licence and willingness to travel across the designated region
Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
