About the role
As a Caseworker/Counsellor within the Drug Court team, you will play a key role in supporting participants on their recovery journey through evidence-based drug and alcohol interventions. Your week will involve conducting comprehensive drug and alcohol assessments, developing individualised treatment plans, coordinating referrals, and providing therapeutic counselling services.
You will actively contribute to multidisciplinary clinical reviews, maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to support positive client outcomes. Comprehensive orientation and onboarding will be provided, with ongoing support from your line manager, Clinical Lead, Supervisor, and experienced multidisciplinary team.
Where you'll be working
Based at Newcastle Community Health, you will join a dedicated and supportive multidisciplinary team that includes Registered Nurses, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Counsellors, and Aboriginal Health Workers. You will also work closely with the broader Drug Court network, collaborating with Legal Aid, Police, Prosecutors, Community Corrections, and the Judiciary to help participants achieve meaningful and lasting change.
About you
You are a compassionate and professional clinician with a strong commitment to supporting people experiencing alcohol and other drug-related challenges. You bring experience delivering evidence-based interventions and are able to build positive therapeutic relationships while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
You will demonstrate excellent organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and complete high-quality clinical documentation in a timely manner. A collaborative approach, willingness to learn, and an interest in working within the Drug Court environment will see you thrive in this rewarding role.
Requirements:
- Must hold a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Counselling, Occupational Therapy, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer, which provides either eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association or full registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Eligible to drive in NSW and the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes, which may involve driving long distances.
