This is a position identified for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people on the basis of a genuine occupational qualification under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. About the role:

As an Aboriginal Health Worker, you will:

Build trusted relationships with Aboriginal children, families and communities.
Deliver culturally safe, respectful and family-centred care that recognises the strengths and needs of each family.
Work collaboratively with Child and Family Health Nurses, multidisciplinary professionals and community organisations to support children's health, development and wellbeing.
Advocate for Aboriginal families and help improve access to health and community services.
Strengthen partnerships with Aboriginal communities and services to promote positive, culturally informed health outcomes.

Contribute to early intervention, health promotion and prevention initiatives that support children to have the best start in life

Where you’ll be working:

Join the Child and Family Health Service as an Aboriginal Health Worker and help create healthier futures for Aboriginal children and families from birth to five years of age.

As part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you'll deliver culturally safe, holistic and family-centred care across Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Port Stephens and the Manning region. Working closely with families, communities and partner agencies, you'll play an important role in improving health outcomes and giving children the best possible start in life.

You'll be supported by experienced Nurse Unit Managers, Clinical Nurse Consultants and Clinical Nurse Educators, with access to ongoing professional development, clinical supervision, mentoring and cultural support. This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a team that values collaboration, cultural respect and making a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal children, families and communities.

You are passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and families and are committed to delivering culturally safe, family-centred care.

Requirements

Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.
