Obtain Certificate III Electrotechnology (TAFE)
Kick start your career with a four-year Electrical Apprenticeship at Hunter Water Corporation commencing January 2027.

The Opportunity
The Apprentice Electrician will work with the Electrical and Mechanical group’s Electrical and Automation trades, as well as Engineering and Safety staff to gain experience and training in a wide range of functions involving Hunter Water’s assets.
What you'll do:
-
Maintenance, fault finding and repair of electrical assets including but not limited to:
- Electric motors including submersible pump motors
- Motor starters including DOL, auto-transformer, star delta, solid state (soft starter) and variable speed starters
- Pump and process level control equipment
- Electrical distribution equipment
- High voltage motors, starters, and network structures
- Motor and process control equipment including relay/contactor logic and PLC equipment
- Instrumentation equipment associated with process monitoring and control
- Open and closed loop control systems
- Telemetry equipment
- Pump station and Substation maintenance.
- Grounds maintenance
- Pump and motor overhauls

Installation and wiring of all electrical equipment including but not limited to:
- Switchboards and motors at water treatment plants and water pumping stations , wastewater treatment works and wastewater pumping stations
- Electrical wiring of Corporation’s premises such as cottages, depots and offices
What you'll need to be successful:
Essential Criteria:
-
Completed Higher School Certificate (Year 12) or equivalent
-
Demonstrated competence in Mathematics shown through completion of
Advanced Mathematics (HSC level) or equivalent (candidates are required to provide proof of prior studies and results i.e. trial HSC results with their application) -
Class C Driver’s Licence or provisional equivalent

Construction Induction Card
-
Interest in and aptitude for mechanical tasks
-
Ability to work effectively within a small team
- Strong organisational skills
-
Proven communication, collaboration and relationship building skills
-
Intermediate computer skills
-
Strong work ethic and commitment to be productive and efficient at work

Willing and able to work in a variety of work environments including but not limited to working in confined spaces, at heights and in environments exposed to sewer.
The apprentice must be willing and able to complete the following formal education:
-
Certificate III Electrotechnology (TAFE)
-
All mandatory compliance training including but not limited to Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights and Elevated Work Platform (EWP) (some compliance training requires an individual to be 18 years or older to complete)
Desirable Criteria:
-
Completed Certificate II Electrotechnology
-
Relevant work experience in an electrical field
-
Other work experience including other casual or part-time work
