Are you mechanically minded, hands-on and ready to build a trade career with one of Australia’s most capable privately owned engineering service providers? NEPEAN Engineering is now inviting motivated future tradespeople to apply for our 2027 Apprentice Fitter Machinist intake based at our Prestons, NSW facility.

As part of the NEPEAN group, you’ll join a proudly Australian business with a strong heritage in engineering, manufacturing and industrial solutions. This apprenticeship is a chance to learn from experienced tradespeople, work with real equipment, and develop the practical skills that can set you up for a long-term career in fitting and machining.

About the opportunity

This fixed-term apprenticeship runs for up to four years and is designed to support you as you learn fitting, machining, measuring, assembly and general engineering workshop practices. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to become a qualified Fitter Machinist and build a strong foundation for a career in precision engineering and manufacturing.

You’ll gain exposure to CNC machining, manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, hand and power tools, fabrication support and workshop processes while learning how to work safely, accurately and efficiently in a modern engineering environment.

What you’ll learn

How to read drawings, technical specifications and job requirements.
How to operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders and CNC equipment.
How to measure, mark out, shape and finish metal components to meet quality requirements.
Fitting, assembly and maintenance practices used across engineering and manufacturing projects.
How to use a variety of hand and power tools and support day-to-day workshop duties.
Safe work practices, WH&S requirements and how to contribute positively in a team environment.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for enthusiastic, reliable and safety-minded applicants with mechanical aptitude, initiative and a genuine interest in learning a fitting and machining trade. You’ll enjoy practical hands-on work, be comfortable working as part of a team, and be willing to learn from experienced tradespeople in a busy workshop environment. Completion of Year 12 is required, and applicants currently studying or interested in a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade will be highly regarded.
