Wandiyali is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation established in Awabakal (Newcastle) in 1997. As the largest accredited Aboriginal provider of Permanency Support Program (PSP) Out-of-Home Care (OOHC) services across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Hunter Region and Port Stephens, Wandiyali is committed to delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed and community-led supports for Aboriginal children, young people and families.

In addition to OOHC services, Wandiyali delivers a broad range of Family Preservation and community support programs, working in partnership with children, young people, families and communities to achieve safe, culturally strong and sustainable outcomes.

Job Description

The Opportunity

We're looking for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who has experience in leadership or has demonstrated experience in PSP Foster Care who is looking for a pathway into leadership.

Please note this is a fixed-term position ending on Wednesday 30 June 2027.

The primary function of the PSP Foster Care Casework Coordinator is to provide leadership, coaching, motivation, and guidance to the casework team to:

Ensure a quality service which promotes the welfare, Cultural connection, and interests of children, young people in Out of Home Care and their families, and:
Provide safe, stable, and suitable permanency options for children and young people and:
The provision of quality case management of children and young people to meet their Cultural, day-to-day care and support needs.

The Benefits

Identifies as Aboriginal or/and Torres Strait Islander and has proven knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the community.
Relevant qualifications and experience working with Children and Young People in the statutory care system.
Comprehensive knowledge and working understanding of the current child protection service system, policy and practice and the needs of children in OOHC, including knowledge of:
- Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998
- Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998
- Ombudsman Act 1974 (Amendment)
- Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998
- UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
- NSW Standards for Statutory Out-of-Home Care, guidelines, and accreditation requirements
- Care Models
Experience in the supervision of case work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, children, and young people
Demonstrated understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people, families and parents and a comprehensive understanding of key risk factors of trauma on childhood development.
Experience in the provision of individual and group supervision.
Demonstrated ability to manage own time and support your team to achieve identified gaols and objectives in a required timeframe.
Intermediate level of computer skills
Demonstrated ability to liaise, advocate with and maintain positive working relationships with relevant government and non- government professionals, community groups, services, and agencies.
Demonstrated high level of skill in preparation of essential care documents.
Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage reporting requirements with required timeframes, internally and externally.
Demonstrated high level of skill in interpersonal communication including conflict resolution and negotiation.
The ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with other services in our community and attend local network events.
Demonstrated ability to participate positively in teamwork, training, and supervision processes.
Proven effective written and verbal communication skills.
